Reading another post a few seconds ago made me think about what some good songs that came through my iPod on my 100 minute run yesterday. Some of my favorites to keep me feeling alive are:

Chevelle "Forfeit"
Chevelle "Emotional Drought"
Chevelle "Get Some"
Panic! at the Disco "The only difference between marytdom and suicide is press coverage"
Obie Trice "Got some teeth"
50 Cent "Disco Inferno"
Hinder "Get Stoned"
The Offspring "Vultures"
Alien Ant Farm "Smooth Criminal"

and it's really weird but a song that always puts me in a good mood because I keep getting flash backs from Wayne's World is: Queen "Bohemian Rapsody"

Anything by Pearl Jam, Nirvana, SoundGarden, Foo Fighters, Weezer, DMB Live, Beastie Boys, and Coldplay works for me. Especially before races and hard workouts, but I'm not much into listening during the workouts, although a swim MP3 sounds like a great idea.

Make sure you put some tracks from "Afro Celt Sound System" on there. It'll make you go much faster.

If you really want go get fired up, try "Redneck" by lamb of god - if that doesn't get you going, I'm not sure what will. I usually go pretty heavy with stuff like Killswitch Engage, All That Remains, Hatebreed, Metallica, and Black Label Society. If I'm in a lighter mood, I'll throw in some Me First and the Gimmie-Gimmies (punk-style covers of 80's classics and ballads, usually very high tempo). If you've never heard of them, find a track and listen, you'll love it.

Got some soothing tunes too, Dutch Hip hop / Rap formation called : "Opgezwolle" download some of their stuff on Limewire or Soulseek or whatever...
Check out: "Als die mic aan staat" from Opgezwolle

On my blog is also a link to Endurance radio.com where you can download podcasts of Peter Reid, Dave Scott and many more.

Hell yea! The heavy stuff is awesome. Killswitch Engage and Protest the Hero are my top two "pumped-up" groups.

Nice to see I'm not the only one into heavy music here. I only listen to my Ipod in the weights room - thats when the heavy mujsic comes in handy.

Do any of you listen to your IPod when you are training?

i just found podrunner the other day, actually my wife found it. :) it is great, i have that on my shuffle for runs. :) as for biking, i have a lot of paul oakenfold mixes. nothing like 3 hours of nonstop continuously mixed music. those are just the basics, i have tons of different playlists for different moods.

I listen to my MP3 player (too cheap to buy an IPod) only while running and lifting. Biking is too dangerous with all the idiots on the road here south of Houston and swimming, well, it's obvious.

Even better than Cowboys from Hell, try Walk - if you aren't raging pissed and ready to just hammer out some hard intervals, man I don't know what'll get your blood boiling.

That is the only time I really use it, well that's all I do I hate the weight room. Once IM AZ is over I will be working in the weight room I think.

Dr Rios I used to be a huge Bush fan but lately I just can't stand them anymore. Every song is just buzz words, don't get me wrong I like Gavin and I think he has talent but when you leave your rock career to persue Modeling then you lose a lot of cred...

I wear mine running, biking, and swimming thanks to the SwiMp3... There is nothing like listening to a little disturbed while in the water.

It's really cool that so many people here listen to some heavy stuff. I am gonna iTunes some Killswitch Engage tonight...

I'm another eclectic here - currently on my iPod
X, Girlyman, U2, Rachmaninoff, Eminem, Leahy, ABBA, David Wilcox, Springsteen, Alanis Morissette, Alison Krauss, Clash, Cheetah Girls, Willa Ford

I only use it when running, but I'm really liking it for that (it's new).

DKM's "Do or Die" is awesome to train to, as well as "Blackout"
Helmet - Meantime...whole album front to back
Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power...front to back, and Far Beyond Driven. broken is still the #$%&@ jam
Clutch - self titles, or pretty much any Clutch album for me as they are, far and away, the best rock-and-roll band on the planet
Rage - Anything
QOTSA - Rated R and Songs for the Deaf
Dre, Jay-Z, Eminem, Pharcyde, Cube, NWA...oh no...we cannot forget NWA
I also second MJ, but I am an "Off the Wall" fan
Jack Johnson and Coldplay for base training season

And my guilty pleasure...Kelly Clarkson's Breakaway. The whole album is well written and produced. I know, I suck.

German rap? Me too - Die Fantastichen 4. Wir Sind Helden are also great. Denkmal would have been a global smash if it were recorded in English.

And if you like Strummer and the Clash, pick up The Beatsteaks. They are German but sing in English. Awesome, but I only found it in liebe Deutschland.

I put " Hot for Teacher" from Van Halen in the middle of my playlist. The drum solo at the start helps me get my pace up right about the time I start to slow down.

I follow that with " I Can't Surf" from Reverend Horton Heat. It's just fun.

First off - I have an mp3 player. iPods are for metrosexuals. Look good on girls though...

As for what's on it.. I have a mix of music (for the more intense running or trainer workouts) and lots of podcasts for the zone 2 runs. Pretty apparent that I grew up in the 80's eh?

My workout playlist looks like this:

  1. Last of the Mohicans Theme<--These
  2. Chariots of Fire Them<---------Three get me
  3. Olympic Fanfare<--------------- Warmed up!
  4. Going the Distance (Rocky)
  5. Gonna Fly Now (Rocky)
  6. Superman Theme
  7. Burning Heart by Survivor (Rocky IV)
  8. Hearts on Fire by John Cafferty
  9. Training Montage from Rocky IV
  10. Eye of the Tiger (Rocky III)
  11. Right Now by Van Halen
  12. Why Can't this be Love by Van Halen
  13. Dreams by Van Halen
  14. Only the Young by Journey (Vision Quest)
  15. Bring me to Live by Eanenscence
  16. Change by John Waite (Vision Quest)
  17. Take Us Out (Rudy)
  18. Rudy Theme
  19. Waiting (Rudy)
  20. Tryout (Rudy)

In addition I have the following random albums/artists:

  1. Duran Duran
  2. Oingo Boingo
  3. Foo Fighters
  4. Kiss
  5. Ozzy
  6. Styx
  7. Colin Hay (Men at Work guy gone solo)
  8. Aqua (might be the only straight guy to have this)
  9. Coldplay (esp like "Message")

As for podcasts: (the following are links to the RSS feed if you want to subscribe (free))

  1. Tritalk of course (you must listen to this!)
  2. NPR This American Life (Documentart - current events/artsy)
  3. BBC In Our Time (Kinda like listening to a documentary - rather academic)
  4. Slacker Astronomy (Amateur astronomy)
  5. others depending on the mood
