I am coming down for the race in April and was hoping to get some insight into the bike course. I have heard that it is hilly but can anyone clarify what hilly is? How long are the climbs? Steep?

Any suggestions on things to do in the area? I will be in Port Macquarie the week before the race and then taking off up to Northern QLD to visit some family.

Tx.

Well lets just say it's not the Pyrenees but there are quite a few hills, that have some really long grinds. I would be doing some work so you can stay in the big chain ring while you power up the hills......thats what I'm doing. Hill repeats of about 300-500m should cover you. there are about 8 significant hills per lap, and then 3 laps.

check out http://www.ironmanoz.com then under "the course" tab you can look at the computrainer out puts. that should give you a graphical insight into the bike and run courses. also not that the run will be hilly and tough.
See you on the beach!

Hey I'm going to be in Sydney for work in a couple weeks, any events happening during January that I should check out? Running, swimming (can't take the bike).

I'm not racing this one, I'll just be supporting but I'll keep an eye out for ya.

as for things to do, port maq is a Small town so not much to do but if you in Sydney you can do the tourist things like climb the opera house and the harbor bridge. the rocks markets etc
in nth qld get out and see the daintree rain forest and the table lands, really serene and quiet, great for riding.

as for events there are some small tri's and Du's on look at trinsw.org.au

Thanks again for the info. We won't be in SYdney this time unfortunately but have done the usual stuff on our last trip. We'll miss Manly as we were planning to stay there for a few days to decompress at the end of the trip before coming home. May try some river rafting in Tully, in PM we're going to try some short day trips to Coffs and the south.
