Using Fuel Belt in Marathon
I have yet to race at that distance for a run but i"m a frm believer in consistency on your training AND nutrition. If you are used to Gatorade endurance and they will serve powerade, I'd go with the Fuel Belt. I'm pretty picky with my nutrition and take extra water bottles on long bike races versus relying on whats being handed out.
I used my amphipod belt (very similar) on the run for a half iron recently. Granted, my strategy was bit different as I was refilling the bottles with water & gatorade at some of aid stations, but it worked pretty well.
In races that are as well supported as Disney I never use a belt..I will carry the gels I use and succeed caps usually in a bike or tri jersey. If the liquid on the course doesn't suit you...drink water.
Now if you have been training this way don't change...But think about running less encumbered in the future.
Personally..I think it's a hoot to see people lining up for a road race with more stuff than I used to use on multi-day alpine climbs.
Comfort stuff I guess.

I used one in IM Florida. It was nice being able to avoid the pile-ups at the aid stations and sip whenever I wanted to. I just threw the bottle away (in a trash can!) when I was done. The belt also serves as a reflection device required for those who finish in the dark (like me!)
Speed hurts; how fast do you want to go?
I wore one on the run in IMWI. I filled it with hammergel that had endurolytes mixed in. Thus I only had to stop for water from the aid stations. This is what you have to do when you don't care for the products that the race sponsor is providing. I don't know if the volume of just liquid is enough to get you through a whole marathon. I know people who have filled up their flasks with powder and mixed it with water at the aid stations.
You could wear the fuel belt for the lower back support, but personally I wouldn't bother carrying fluids for Disney. As homebrewermike alluded to, it will be very tough to carry sufficient fluids on the belt to get you through the race. Better option might be to suck it up and deal with the powerade while carrying enough endurolytes in your fuel belt pocket to compensate for the fact that Powerade has about 75% less sodium in it than Gatorade Endurance.
I have used my belt at races less supported than Disney. My husband is bringing his because he hates the poweraid they have , and wants to use his Accelerade--me I dont care as long as I have fluid of any kind really. I will cary my own gels though.
I have used my fuels belt on occasion but now I pretty much save it for training.
At events that have pretty decent support(like Disney) I go with what they have.
I train using what is on course and make sure my GI is okay with it. I have a pretty adaptable digestive system.
I bring some thermolyte tabs and maybe some tylenol but I try and keep it light. Less stuff to worry about.
Nothing to it, but to do it
Yea, these are all good points - Will continue to think this one out.

I used my Fuel Belt at Disney last year because I loaded it with Ultra Violence (my pet name for Mountain Dew Code Red). They don't serve that on the course, so when I was ready for it (about 1/2 way through), I had what I wanted. It's not that much extra weight, and I'm used to running carrying stuff anyway.
anton, I agree with you. But, I have noticed guys like Macca wearing the belt and figure that if they do it, there can't be much of an argument against it, epseically at IMCDA this year when I was in between aid stations and was dying for some liquid...at some point I begged a fan for their water bottle and they gave it to me.

Does anyone in here use a FuelBelt in races? I am considering using mine in Disney, to avoid Powerade, and use gatorade endurance formula (what I normally use), I also want to use it as a sacroilliac belt substitute, as this has bothered me in the past.
Seems do-able, just never done it.
