My name's Robin. I was a swimmer in college and my coach made us all do a triathlon for cross-training. We were a totally motley bunch on whatever bikes and running equipment we could scrounge up. But I got hooked! That was twenty years ago, and other than the years that each of my kids was born, I've been doing tris the whole time.

This year marked my first Ironman and my 40th birthday. I've been doing triathlon half of my life so far. As a part-time job, I coach swimmers and triathletes and I also run a local very casual women's triathlon group.

I don't have a ton of time and money to race as much as I want, but I hope to at least do one sprint, one Olympic, and one half-Iron this year, and probably some miscellaneous other stuff (I might dabble in Master's swimming this year, and I ride with a local bike store's team, so I'll probably be time-trialing this spring).

Welcome and congrats on your 1st Ironman... Hopefully in a few years I will be able to do my first.

I did Ironman Florida, it was fun (well, maybe excepting the weather on the swim). Which one did you do?

I love this quote. My skydiving coach used to tell us "Slow is smooth; smooth is fast; therefore slow is fast." I use that all the time in my coaching of swimmers, and sometimes repeat it as a mantra to myself during a swim start, but never heard it anywhere else!

I did IMWI this year. We had less than stellar weather conditions as well (cold, wind, rain).
Ya, I like that quote to keep my focus on the swim start as well, and I even attached it to my bike to keep me on my race pace and not go too hard early.

Welcome and congrats on the IM :) I'm jealous of you in Oregon right now (from the Applegate Valley area myself), and hope to be back home sometime soon.

You'll find we're a pretty lovable and relaxed community :D

Small world: I grew up in Jacksonville! I took a real nice bike ride through the Applegate last summer, it's just so beautiful there.

Thanks for the welcome!

Wow, what a small world, eh?? Did you go to Jacksonville elementary? We would've been a year or so apart in grades maybe. Wild!

I'll PM you, my folks are still in Medford so I'm down there a lot. We could even meet up for a ride or a run if you're interested.

Best of luck in your Ironman plans, it's a cool dream to pursue.

Ironmom - I didn't go to elementary in J'ville, I graduated from Medford Sr. High in 86 though. Went to Mid-high for 9th &10th grade too.

My kiddos went to J'ville though... now they are both at South Medford High. It is a small world! Would love to get together sometime! Just let me know.
