HR aerobic training for the Swim
Although i do all my bike and run training with a HR monitor and know all my thresholds from multiple VO2 tets, in the poll I work off of preceived exertion. The pool is all about long swims or interval workouts based on time and distance for me, all done below AeT, so it's all aerobic.

Of course it's 'effing hard, it's IRONMAN!
I have been using my HR on the pool for quite some time know.
Based on Mak Allen´s training plans he requests to obey your zones in the pool aswell. So I try to stay in my aerobic zone determined by his method until I can actualy get a VO2 test.
And I have seen the difference. I went slower at first (i´m not a very good swimmer) and after some time I could swim faster and mantain a lower HR. I guess the theory is the same. Your body should not work diferently just because you are in water, or should it???

regarding the wheels, you'll feel faster because you have the wheels which will cause you to ride faster. You'll be faster non-the-less.
I thought Friel indicated as a rule of thumb that the bike is 7 beats lower than the run and the swim is 7 below the bike.
I would be a little concerned riding on wheels that I hadn't used previously, just because of the handling characteristics of areo wheels in varying wind conditions - especially in cross-winds.
Those are fast wheels tho!

Well the Dr. that did my VO2 testing said they typically see and use 8 to 10 bpm lower on the bike than their run in actual testing of people. Maybe thats just a bit more conservative than the 7 but either way their very close.
As for the wheels thanks for the feedback and I should have 2 or 3 days before the two events to put a few miles on them before hand to get acclimated, I think that will be plenty unless theres a Hurricane next year lol. Then again I may just like them too much and buy em after the first event - pocketbook OUCH!
Thanks again

I know from my VO2 testing my running Aerobic Threshold is 159 bpm, coresponding to a 149 ish on the Bike. My question is while im swiming what should I use, as getting to 159 and holding that seems like quite a bit more work than running but maybe its just the added difficulty of breathing in the water.
Also has anyone rented wheels from Race Day Wheels.com. I just reserved two events a 1/2 IM an IM FL and wondered if anyone else had any feedback on what I should expect as an improvement soley from a stock Cervelo P2C on reg wheels to the bike on Zipp 808's
Thanks
