Hey all,

So after this mornings ride I realized that I really need to start working on my hill training. Only problem is that to get to even modest hills its a 50 min drive each way so I cant do it very often. So any ideas on how to train for hills without having to actually find hills to tackle? The campus gym has those training bikes so thinking about those but wasn't to sure. Well thanks for your input, and have a good afternoon =)

You could get a trainer. Riding indoors is boring but you would get enough resistance with a trainer to simulate hills. I wouldn't waste your time with the bikes at the gym because those are usually a joke.

I've got the same problem. And the trainer is the way I deal with it. And weight training at the gym.

what weight training do you recommend to help become a better climber? I'm about to pull the trigger for a hilly Half IM in sept and besides riding lots of hills what can I do?

proud and high or low and humble - many miles before I go

You could also do tempos, low cadence/hard gear sets, stuff like that. You may also want to consider taking a long weekend trip out the mountains or any hilly area. Get in some easy long rides/runs in just to test out everything.

leg presses, sqauts, lunges, knee extensions. Don't forget to train hamstrings and calves to ensure a balanced workout.

Check out some books (going long/training bibe etc) for specifics on phases and how to lift. Throw in a bosu ball for some functional training as well.
