Building Base After Injury

So after two weeks off from running due to SI joint injury, I was able to successfully run a mile yesterday without any pain, and tried up hill/down hills grassy areas to confirm, all worked well.
Today I went out and ran 3 miles, and though a bit stiff and sore, I don’t have to favor anything, the soreness never gets any worse, and I can run at a relaxed pace.
I am continuing to alternate Ice and Heat, and my physical Thursday, December 7.
I’ve gotten in one twenty miler, and one 18 miler, and a lot of other long runs before two weeks ago. I don’t want to run another 18-20 miler before Disney, as I don’t need to risk re-injury. What kind of mileage should I be building? How often should I run per week? During these two weeks, I’ve been cycling A LOT, and have maintained all cardiovascular fitness, which makes me happy. Thanks for any advice all!

This close and considering your injuries...don't worry about building ...maintain.
Three to four runs a week depending on how you feel and the cycling will get you through. Frequency right now not miles...reminding the mind how the body works. Push distance based on how you feel but don't go far...You are learning!
Don't risk re-injury. You will get through Disney just fine bearing in mind it's for fun and finish not a PR.
See ya there!

I have been injured before a race unable to run much (Disney for one). I have done hours on the eliptical, which actually even though it is boring, you could try, and there is no impact for your back. It kicks your butt, and lets you maintain. Also if you have a pool, water joging would be good. Then you can minimize your time actually running and be able to maintain for the race. Its only 4 weeks away, and you would be taperinga bit in 1-2 weeks probably any way. Just a thought
-OH--PS see you there :)

haha nice. Great to see so many tri-fuelers with support. I have physical therapy today, and have been doing lots of cycling and elliptical work. Going to try and run more strong, and more frequently, but with less mileage.
