What does it really cost to put on an IM race?
look at all the amenities you get during the race and before and after. Police, road blockages, permits ($$$) to block off the roads, insurance ($$$$$) for the racers. It adds up
glbrum hits it...it is expensive to put on a race and I;m sure Insurance is astronomical. Remember too, that there are WTC folks who have their salaries paid by race entries. They must be doing ok.

...and don't forget about the fees the online processors like Active.com receive to handle online registrations for events...at least 2% (and probably more like 3 or 4%) of any of the online transactions for any event...so take that out of the profit bucket as well...

What does active.com's "tax" that they put on all transactions have to do with the amont of money it costs the WTC to put on a race?

In Madison there were about 2600 entrants each paying approximately $450 to compete. Does it really take $1.2 million to put on this event or a similar one? Does anyone know where all the money goes? Not in the T-shirts I'm pretty sure.
