Will cross-training, and taking a rest day every week, hurt my running? I haven't been running in 7 days, and have taken two rest days, due to a pulled piriformis muscle. I don't feel any strong strain on the piriformis or my lower back when I ride, so I'm assuming its safe to ride.
I also have been icing it, and taking ibpruofen. How much running fitness can I expect to lose?
Thanks!

You can rest for a while without worrying too much. What you do lose will come back in a few weeks. A month or more is where I would start to be concerned about amount of fitness lost, but if it allows your injury to heal, any fitness lost is worth it.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

Agreed in full. It really doesn't matter how much fitness you lose as long as you give your injuries time to heal. Like I said, it's better to rest now than to be injured again in June. Don't be concerned about how much you are going to lose because that will cause you try and come back too fast. Just relax and enjoy the time off as best you can.

I'll third that...Recover now...come back and re-build running fitness...SLOWLY...later on. It will come back. You will run again, and you will have learned some valuable lessons.

I figure when I come back, I will work only at a base level, (60-75% max HR) and carry this into the next few months. Don't have any speed goals, just want to build a stronger engine.

Staying active and taking a break from one particular sport will extend the amount of time you'll maintain fitness. I wouldn't worry too much.

About 2 years ago I had an ACL reconstruction. I could not do any running for at least 3 months. By just swimming, cycling, and other cross training exercises I was able get back to running without any problems. In fact, I might have only lost a little running fitness and it came back very quickly. Good luck.
