Didn't see specific info while I was searching through the forums, so...

Just wondering what people use, and have found they like/dislike as far as cold weather gear goes. I'm curious on the temperature ranges people ride in and such items as leggings vs tights any issues with tights over shorts and sliding, do you wear your tights over/under your shorts, shoe booties that have been particularly nice, etc.

I've geat to keep me warm down to about freezing, save that as this point all I have are my running tights which slide around between my seat and shorts. My jacket, arm warmers, hoodie, and leg warmers keep me toasty, but tend to leave the netherregions lacking

It kind of makes me miss the days when I was young and would just toss on another layer of sweats ;)

Are you referring to cold in Austin? I am afriad that your cold is nothing compared to what we get up in the midwest. In Michigan, I almost have to wear a freakin snow suit.

My new favorite is a pair of the under armour heat underwear. They are so comfy, plus they keep the nuts nice an warm (which is a major plus). I love things, i wear them all the time.

Live in Austin...bike/swim/run all over, including up in the mountains in Oregon.

Hey J -- Check out target! I love the running tights I've gotten there, and some great long sleeved shirts, too. Unfortunately for me it looks like they are mostly only carrying it in mens now. It's called C9 by Champion. Wicking and cheap.

However, I have luck with running tights under bike shorts... And I sometimes throw the long sleeves under a jersey if I know the whole ride will be cold. And of course I run in the stuff, too =)

I use my Brooks running tights under my bibs. No issue here with chaffing. I double up with the leg warmers (Pearl Izumi lined ones...awesome). On top I wear the Under Armour Cold Gear (Incredible) under a jersey, with the Pearl arm warmers. I top it off with a hideous yellow windbreaker so idiots in Michigan can see me.

For the feet, you gotta go with the Pearl Izumi lined booties. They are $50, but worthe every penny.

For the head, I picked up an Assos cap in Germany that is almost too warm.

It takes me 10 minutes to peel it all off when I get to work.

So Cal chimming in. Today I think it was a high of 92. Sorry, wrong thread.

Back on topic. Since we are probably in similar climates, for most of the winter I wore leg warmers, arm warmers, long finger gloves. That was for days that usually started in the high 40's/low 50's at 6:30am. If it were low-mid 40's starting out I'd throw an underarmor sleevless shirt on under my jersey.

The worst I've been out in was a high of 40 and raining. I think I put on a long sleeve underarmor, sleeveless underarmor, arm warmers, beanie, leg warmers, knee warmers, socks. I was still cold. But I went out anyway!

I wear socks in the winter also.

EDIT: the UA stuff I wear isn't the cold gear, I think it's the HEAT gear actually so it's pretty thin.

Haven't had to break them out yet, but a comfy pair of Ibex Roaster Boxers keeps the boys warm under my thermafleece bibs.
I second the Pearl Izumi leg warmers, booties gloves and cap, great gear.

On top, a sleeveless base layer with a midweight longsleeve jersey and a vented lime green jacket, Jersey drivers need a little help seeing too.

I wear brooks tights over my bike shorts....less chance for the dreaded chaffing. For my feet I have pearl izumi amphib booties and for my hands I wear gloves and have a pair of "head sweats" water resistant lobster claw covers for in the rain.
Jacket is a Sugoi Invertor for temps 30- 45...but then i only wear a thin brooks "runderwear" top under it, as I would get too warm. If its warmer and raining for example then I would wear a rain jacket and thicker technical shirt under (most of my shirts I wear under my jackets are Brooks running).

Hope that helps

Wind briefs!... Like cayman, got to keep the boys warm...other than that...wind panel front tights from Performance. A wind shell top over several thin layers so I can adjust when necessary...shoe covers...a toboggan/toque/ski hat under the helmet (A balaclava if it's real cold)...some big honkin' gloves and I'm set!

I think this is some kind of trick to make anyone form the northeast feel like crap. Today since it it is cold and not going to get any warmer for my ride time.
Cannongale knickers
Pearl Izumi tights on top
Long sleeved under sweat wicking undershirt
Pearl Izumi Fleece jacket
Wind breaking jacket PI
Winter hat
Gloves

The best buy would have to be the pearl Izumi Bib Tights They are wind breaking almost rubber like on the out side then fleece on the inside. I dont even thing twice before I go out.

Except when I read about people saying how cold it is in Cali and Texas.:D
