I am looking for a good all around triathlon wheelset, without sacrificing too much speed. Should I go with 808 or 606?

Both wheelsets are good, it kinda depends on the course and your speed as a cyclist. The 808's are super aero, but heavy, and not great for climby or technical courses. The rear is actually same weight as their disc, but accelerates slower. To take advantage of the aero dynamics, you would have to average in the area of 23 miles an hour. I still think the 404 is their best wheelset for aerodynamics and weight combined. The 606 is a blend of the 2, so a good middle ground.

I've been looking at the Zipps for some time but I can't see that much of a difference with the HED's except that they're about 50% cheaper. Are the HED's worth considering or are Zipps the only way to go?

I've ridden Zip 404s (great wheelset) and HED TriSpokes. I like them both and I guess it comes down to personal preference. Both brands will allow the rider to go as fast as those legs can pedal!
