What are your focus and goals for 2007?
Oh, good one! 2007: Go just under 10 hours at IMAZ and qualify for Kona, finsih top 16 at AG Nationals and qualify for worlds in Hamburg, go to Kona and cross the same finish line my mother did 30 years ago. :)

Of course it's 'effing hard, it's IRONMAN!
I am doing IMWI again in 2007 for my second IM. The goal of the first was to finish and finish strong. That was accomplished. This time I will be focusing on time. I am looking to go sub 12H.
Have been working on my training plan to get me there.

I want to have a healthy, happy 2007, be the best person and father I can be, and enjoy watching my daughters get another year older.
This year my girls want to do some races. My oldest might try and do a short kids tri this year so I will be helping her train. My youngest might do some shorter running events.
For me, my ''A'' Race this year is the ChesapeakeMan IM distance race in Maryland, in September. I would like to train better this year and get under 13 hours.
To start off the year I will be doing the Dopey Challenge at Walt Disney World in Orlando
(5k on Friday, 1/2 mary on Saturday, Full Mary on Sunday)
I will be doing a marathon in the spring(TBD)
and doing the NYC Marathon in the fall.
I would like to knock a few minutes off of my marathon time too.
Otherwise I will fill up my other weekend with shorter running events, and some shorter triathlons as well.
I want to finish everything I do with a smile on my face.

I like the options of new years! wheee!
Ok so the for sure race: IM KY. Goal: sub-13 if no "outside my control" issues appear race day (wanna train with me scott? I might let you get a word or 2 in ;)). This race also has a personal goal related for me: have a boy at the finish line just for me. Ok, he might be really sweaty (or he might have had time to shower) but I'm so excited to have company on the journey this time!
The maybes:
* an ultra -- it was a 2005 maybe, and a 2006 goal. Hopefully I will get my foot to actually HEAL this time (by not being stupid) and will make it in 2007 if it fits in the rest of the selected maybe races.
* Baja Travesia -- 3 to 5 day adventure race. I need to find a team, and get on the mtb even more. Oh and paddle more. But I would love to be there!
* Ralph's (or 70.3 CA or whatever they are calling it now) -- an IM KY build-up day.
Other non-race goals:
* KONA 2007!!! Cheering for Mike after he qualifies at IM KY :)
* watching my nephew's growing up, and taking the big brother one out for special days of his own.
* not get into a "training because I have to" mindset but keeping "training because I can".

Pain is a necessity in life and only makes one stronger
My main goals for 2007 are to improve my swim technique and work on shortening my T1/T2 times...
Other goals include worrying less about where I place in the race and focus more on enjoying my time during the race...
Mental preparation before and during a race is another goal I want to improve on..
One last goal is to join a local tri club. I already have that in the works so next year will hopefully be a good year for training and racing...
"Feed the Tridiction" :D
My main goal for 2007 is to finish the Chesapeakeman IM distance race in September. To do that I need to become somewhat quicker in the water and much more efficient on the bike. I plan on taking some private swim lessons and spending a lot of time on the trainer this winter. My tune ups are going to be an OLY distance tri in July and a slightly longer than OLY distance tri in the first week of Sept.
I am running Boston in April with no time goal, just the goal of enjoying every minute of it.
My other goals are to get my wife to start exercising and my daughter to give track a try, just for fun.
go to Kona and cross the same finish line my mother did 30 years ago. :)
That would be cool!

That would be cool!
That's the plan, and Mom will be there . :D

Of course it's 'effing hard, it's IRONMAN!
Let's try this again:
1. Stay injury free in 2007
2. Lots and lots of base building
3. Sub 2:30 in the local Oly
4. Become a more efficient swimmer
5. Train like hell for IMKY
6. Sub 13hr IMKY
7. Enjoy everyday that I get to do this thing we call triathlon.

1. Get down to 2:10 for an OLY race, St Anthonys or Capital of Texas
2. Hit 4:30 at Lake Stevens HIM
3. Sub 10 hour IMKY
4. Train smart and stay injury free
**Sub 2:25 for an oly. Didn't quite make it last year so I'll try again... this is a little slower than my fastest splits combined from different races including transitions. i can do this...
*Break 50 for a 10k split (come on Carolyn, you ran 21:30 for a 5k split and sub 20 for a 5k race... guess who needs to work on her run endurance..)
*contemplating age group nats in portland - in 05 there were only 15 finishers in f20-24 and it would be soo cool to go to worlds
*contemplating racing in the elite wave at chicago to avoid some of the congestion on the swim and bike to help me achieve #1...
*train consistently
*train smart
*have fun
*This will be my 5th summer doing triathons so I need to think of something special... I want a new bike but I doubt I'll get one... Maybe if the engine starts working really well and I have some miraculously spectacular performance...

Ok, I must be stupid--what is USANA?
1. Find a balance between work, farm, summer polo and training!
2. Since Walt Disney Olympic distance tri was my first one ever . . . return and knock 30 - 40 mins off my time!
3. Maintain a "healthy" knee after 5 surgeries and not tick off OR give anymore money to my ortho.
Ok, I must be stupid--what is USANA?
It is a network marketing organization, enabling anyone to start a home-based business. I do not mean to solicit distributors on tribro's BB. You may read the USANA opportunity here.
Of course, feel free to PM me. I would love to do this with others who have common interests with me such as triathletes. There have been/are many other triathletes involved in USANA.
thanks for asking , sorry for the commercial.

First Triathlon Season:
07 Goals:
Break 1 hour for a sprint
2:10 for an OLY,
And come top 8 in the local TT's.
Racing a total of 9 races in 07.
Im ambitious and realistic...and maybe a little conservative!
07 goals:
-recover my knee & stay healthy all year (and ever after!)
-be healthy so that I can play with my son
-a first marathon
-knock 15 mins off my bike leg @ Pacific Crest Oly
-knock 20 mins off my Oly run leg @ Pacific Crest Oly [i had a unexpectedly poor run leg so it would otherwise be an 8 min improvement]
-[cycling] race in masters novice class at PIR Monday night and not get dropped
1/2 and full marathon, sub 2hr and 4hr(ish)
couple sprints and olys
main race is a HIM in July
i'm going for completion right now in the HIM, but i want to beat my old sprint times from 8 yrs ago when i last raced.

Primaries for myself:
- - clean, injury free, consistent gradual aerobic buildup during base season with everything aerobic save 1 workout/discipline/week for intensity
- - keep rebuilding my knee from surgery this year
- - increased frequency of training
- - desperately work on my flexibility
- - maintain my sleep schedule and morning workouts
- - run my first standalone marathon (Austin)
- - focus on 2 "A" races: the Lonestar HIM in April and IM Coeur d'Alene. Shooting for sub 5:30 HIM during buildup and 11-12 hour IM.
- - run my first olympic race in May :p
- - some road races this winter to remind myself what it used to be like being a pure runner (last road race was 2002)
- - find a saddle that actually feels comfortable (still looking  )
"Care more than others think is wise, risk more than others think is safe, dream more than others think is practical, expect more than others think is possible."
Pretty specific for me this year. It's been a couple years since I've raced so this will maybe keep me in line. Oh yeah, since I'm slow my biggest goal is to get faster so the longest race is an Oly.
~ 'A' race, maintain 18 mph on bike
~have one 10k split under 9:30
~maintain healthy race weight (sorry, just can't share)
~race one 10k better than 9:06 pace
~swim drills at least twice a week during this winter training
lastly, to feel like I can conquer the world when I'm racing instead of it conquering me! read this as no more mind games with myself before/during races :o
~have one 10k split under 9:30
...
~race one 10k better than 9:06 pace
Curious... what do you mean by a 10k split under 9:30? I figured you meant pace, and then saw the 9:06 pace... and got confused :)

I think I am going to venture into the world of Off-road triathlon. I have done a lot of trail running and mountain biking and lake swimming but not all at the same time. I guess we'll see what happens.
As always, stay injury free.
In no particular order:
-Finish IMWI sub-11hrs
-Set PR for Oly - 2:15:xx or less
-Try some sprints and finish in under an hour
-Graduate law school
-Pass the bar
-Get a job!
-Somehow explain to my body that it'll be happy at 170lbs (it likes 205 right now)
-Buy a tri-bike
-Stay healthy
-Train hard, race harder!
And...may we all obtain our goals!
-Dave
You know, what's clear in my head doesn't always make sense, forgive me for that.
10k split is a tri split not a road race (not shuffling more than 10' per mile pace) and the 10k road race pace is better than 9:06
I hope to meet up with some of you in Disney. Others I think I might try to avoid. After the Goofy I'm thinking a Mary in Atlanta. The Minimarathon In Indy in may. The Double Mussel 88.7 in july then back to a fall mary.
Mostly I hope to have fun and socialize more. Enjoy tthe likes of you all more often.
A sub 3:30 marathon (I really would like a sub 3:20)

I've been having a hard time figuring out where to start with my goals and what, in my training, deserves the most attention.
Today, I went to a great lecture put on by a local cycling club. The speaker was Carrie Cheadle, M.A., Sports Psychology Consultant from Penngrove, CA. She basically had us all sit down and write down our goals for the upcoming year and how we planned on going about achieving our goals.
Her main part of the lecture was how to train mentally. It was very informative.
If anyone is having a tough time with mental training or it is obsolete in your training, check her out.

My goal: Complete the Pacific Crest Half Ironman in June 2007
by training consistently, breaking my long term goals into shorter term goals, and to focus on my goal/mission/dream (i.e., avoid losing motivation due to the many factors). There's more to it, but that's the short of it. I'll probably write more in my blog if anyone is interested.

Little brother, why don't you try to qualify for Boston with your brother next year at Harrisburg (it's only another 5 minutes). Also, you need to get some muscle on your skinny little runner's body!
I'm still waiting for a Harrisburg race report.

Last year, bluebirdbiker started this thread to have folks post their tri goals. For me, it definitely helped putting everything in writing and telling a bunch of people what I wanted to do.
So I thought I'd do it again for 2007.
I'll start: Next year, I've decided to de-emphasize the longer distance races in favor of working on my speed in the shorter stuff. I've also decided to give myself a concrete time goal to make things tougher. Here's the goal--cut at least 12:00 and preferably 15:00 off my best Oly time. I've never gone faster than 3:00:30, so we're looking at sub 2:48:30 to right around 2:45. My current plan is to find those minutes in all 5 legs (S-B-R plus both transitions). I don't know the specifics yet, but my swim and run could both use some real improvements. Unfortunately for me, this is also going to involve some weight loss/lifestyle changes.
I'm going to give myself several attempts at this, and sign up for 3 or 4 Oly races during the summer. I'll keep you guys posted.
OK, now share away with your goals!
