Great Floridian Iron Distance?
It ain't easy. The hills in that area are tough. No, I am NOT joking.
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
My wife and I did the race in the early 90's so it is kind of a distant blur but
I think the "hill" was SugarLoaf Mountain (sneer at calling it
a mountain @ 500' elev. but it is the highest peak in Fl.). You climbed the hill on the way out and at about mile 100 on the return. Seemed like almost a mountain at that stage in the game. I recall strong winds. It rained like hell during the bike and it was pretty sticky for the run.
The race organization was fine and the course was safe.
If you go to trifind.com and find the race I think there are racer comments there.
I did the 1/2 as my first 70.3 two years ago. I had nothing to compare it to, and it was tough! I have another name for Sugar Loaf, which I cannot speak outloud :o I did the 1/2 again last year and it kicked my butt. The heat, the wind, and the hills on the bike and the run (especially the hill at the finish line) are killer. I really couldn't imagine doing the course twice (for the full)...ok, yes I could.
What I don't like is that there is nothing...I mean nothing, for spectators to do during the race. There is little crowd support....nothing like IMG. However, the course is fantastic and beautiful. Hope that helps:p

Thanks for the feedback...I kept seeing the word "tough" on the site but wrongly supposed the course to be flat in Florida. It comes at the time of the year I would like to do my first IM but not sure this is the one. I read the site comments on the event but wanted "the rest of the story" ---thanks again.
