Anyone hear of CrossFit?
Never tried it. Here's the website.
I know of one friend who uses it and likes it. No experience otherwise.

I have not followed the CrossFit program exactly but I do visit the website a lot and get some workout ideas from them. Have done so for about 1.5 years. I very much like the variety and during my tri off season it takes the bordem out of going to the gym.
Basically it is strength training program where you use a lot of basic exercises. A great variety. Olympic type lifting, gymnastics, hi-intensity cardio, stretching, etc, etc.
In my opinion:
The good
- Daily workout posting keeps the variety coming
- Videos show you proper way to do exercises and variations to make them easier or harder.
- Good member base. lots of tips and tricks, etc like forums on TriFuel
- Prescribed programs and daily exercises are functionally based. Meaning they are not designed to make you look good in your tri suit but they are designed to make you perform better ... that said ....
The Bad
- Definately focus hi - intensity stuff (cardio and weigh lifting) ... maybe thats not so bad
- Website seems a bit preachy sometimes and covers area not related to Crossfit / their program (can get a bit political)
- I've heard of followers getting injured and also burning out. Everyone is different and its not the program's fault if someone is unsafe or doesn't listen to their body ... just some feedback I've heard.
All in all I'd recommend it to suppliment tri training. If you spend 1-3 workouts per week on strength training then you will love the variety and the daily prescribed workouts. Give it a shot... what do you have to lose? If you think it sucks ... just walk out of the gym and run home ... you'll get your run training in!
CrossFit is awesome. I stuck with the program for a few months two summers ago while I was getting in shape for a competitive field skills team with my Army ROTC unit. The workouts are quick but they are killer. I saw my functional strength and fitness improve. I also did this in coordination with swimming and running so I could get more cardio. I've been considering getting back into CrossFit to build a solid strength base during the off-season.

I was talking with a personal trainer at the YMCA this morning, and he told me about CrossFit exercise program. He recommended this program over weight lifting. Any of you hear of it or use it?
