Questions about bike fitting...

Ok, so I got my bike fitted today, and now I have a few questions. How can I tell if a guy is FIST-certified? How do I know if I got my money's worth on this? Here's how it happened...he cuts the seat post for me, flips the stem on the handlebars, and that's pretty much it. He also tells me I may want to consider going from a 175 crank to a 172 (54cm bike, I am 5'10" with a longer than average torso). He says he will switch it out gratis if I come back and want to give it a shot. Didn't look at my cleats, shoes, aerobars, etc. Charge: $250, and I can come back whenever I want for adjustments. I sorta feel like I got FISTed; is that why they call it that? Or I am I just cheap? Thanks for your help...

That link tells you who is certified.
I'd say that whoever did yours was not.
My fitting took nearly 2 hours. I was recorded and we reviewed the positioning on the computer, and made small tweaks - I spent most of the time on my bike. I received the DVD so I can review my positioning as well as all the measurements.

My fittings involved tape measures and laserlevels. Adjusted everything down to the angle of my cleats.

I'd agree with RV that yours doesn't sound quite right.

you got FIST'ed, but not Fit Institute Slow Twitch FISTed. It's good that you got "lifetime" free adjustments, but the initial fitting seems to have sucked.

What seatpost did he cut? Are you on a SCOTT plasma??

EDIT: the shorter cranks might not be a bad idea, but what do I really know. I'm about 6'0"-6'1" and I'm all legs. I think I have a 33 inch inseam. I'm also on a 54 and I have a 175cm crank. Since you are more torso than legs, the shorter crank might be better for you. Like I said, what do I know???

Yes, I'm on a Plasma Team. The nice thing is, I can go back to him and he'll switch the crank out for me to see which I like better, and then I can decide. The problem is, I am so new to biking, I am not really sure how it's "supposed" to feel when I ride. This is my second bike, and I have only been riding since June.
I checked the FIST list, and he is on there...so maybe when I go back next week, I ask him to check out my shoes, etc. Thanks so much for all of your help guys.
