I haven’t been swimming in about 40 days or so, due to XC. This morning I went for a base-building swim, (1200m). At about 1,000m I began to feel incredibly nauseaus, sea-sick, and dizzy. I don’t breathe bilaterally, only to my left.
Never had this sensation before, does anyone have experience with this?

Had something similar this morning. Pretty sure it was by blood sugar getting low because I hadn't eaten anything before the swim.

Yea that could also be a good point. I only had 4 hours of sleep last night too...

Ya, that happened to me once as well. I also assumed that it was due to not eating before the workout. It was kind of surreal.

I had friend that this happen to also... well he actually blacked out during his swim and we had to take him to the Dr. The Dr. told us it was most likely because he had not eaten anything. He said the same thing RV said it was surreal. He finished his 1k swim and got out the pool and went straight to the locker room. When I followed him in there to give him his time he said I didnt finish he got out cause he felt dizzy. When I informed him he did finish that is when we figured out something was probably wrong.

Watch your diet and your oxygen levels. You don't want to eat something oily or heavy that will make you sick. Stick to carbs, such as muffins or what not. Also make sure you're not holding your breath too long. That can make you dizzy as well.

i get this to...after a real long set when i push it i stand up in the shallows and get dizzy.

i actually find i get more dehydrated swimming than any other discipline, so i be sure to take a bottle of Cytomax with me to the pool for longer workouts...problem solved.
Also, since you mentioned you just got into it. My body took awhile to get used to breathing in the pool, i had to learn to be "continuously" breathing. Always inhaling or exhaling, never holding my breath, that also helped alot

try em out, i'm no scientist but they helped for me

Yes, breathing is key. Is Cytomax good? I know Dean Karnazes used it extensively in his
"Quest".
Will report later.

i tried alot of other sport drinks and i just find they are too sugar laden for me...i like the more passive taste of cytomax, and its ALOT easier on my stomach. As far as how well it works? damned if i know...but i like the taste, and i use it alot, so it works well enough! haha

I usually use Cytomax, though it took some experimenting with other drinks to determine that Cytomax did work well.

Just to ask you guys. Super off-topic: about swimming base-building. Do you swim nonstop? 1200m without stoping or do you swim sets when base-building?
