Hi gang! Can anyone share some info with me about living in this area...(second home leading to full time residency). How triathlete friendly is it? How is the climate? Do YOU enjoy it there?

Thanks! :)

it rocks ... first you have to eat at "The Laughing Seed Cafe" its a vegitarian restaurant and it is AWESOME. Trust me even if you are not a veggie everything taste very good.

as for riding it is great. the blur ridge is right there. many nice roads. there are a ton of cyclist in the area. the tri scene is okay. its cold up in there mountains so plan to travel around to race. you'll get some great training in the summer. i live over in columbia but i head to ride the blue ridge and the saluda area when i can.

I have been up to Brevard Distance Runners Camp, about 30 some miles from Ashville, and the area is amazing. It looks quite cyclist friendly, and if you can hook up with someone who knows some trails in the mountains, that would be awesome.

Have fun

Every year I go down to Asheville for a solid week of pre-season training... I've been doing this for about 6 years now. It's a wonderful town with a great atmosphere, and the riding is virtually unmatched. It's very cycling-friendly, and is rich in culture. My only warning is that it is quickly becoming the "new Florida" for retirees; not a bad thing, but it's being built up awfully quickly and is losing some of it's old charm.

Thanks guys! Very helpful! We are narrowing our search and Asheville and Flagstaff AZ are constants on the short list. Both are solid options. I wish I had the option of living for at least 6 months in each community before deciding! But that is a luxury that escapes me...
