speed work in the off season
Some runners slot in speed work once a week. Others cycle completely off for awhile to let themselves heal and to relax.
Some who do off season speed work add in fartlek or tempos once a week. I think a great way is to race every other week in local events. Really, you have to find what works for you...so experiment.
Good luck at your Mary and let us know how it goes...and remember! It's not a 5k x-c race...don't go out too fast!

Ended up at 3:31 and change, went out pretty easy 25 first 5 k or so, then picked it up to about 4:40 k's until about 29k or so then started to slow down, not much at first but in the last 5k I was really suffering, and had to walk for a bit a few times.
Sill overall pretty happy, I didn't have enough respect for the distance going in, now I know, and I think that knowledge will help me if I can qualify for IMC this coming summer.

Hey
I have recently finished a couple of months training with my universitys cross country team, I have never trained for the run that hard before in my life.
My question is this, in the winter months there is a group of the team who continues doing workouts, I know that the off season is supposed to be base training but would it benefit me more to do a hard workout on the run once a week or to just do all of my mileage realtively easy ?
going to use all that run training to run a marathon on saturday, hope it pays off :)
