Since my off-season last year was dominated by in-the-dark training for 70.3 California, I'm actually taking one this year, that doesn't involve biking in the dark. Only trail running in the dark.
*Run Santa Barbara 9 Trails Ultra (allwedoisrun.com)
*Beat my boss in our local turkey trot (or else I owe him a breakfast burrito)
*Run a sub 40 min 10K (haven't done this since high school)
*Develope a stronger bike base
*More rock climbing
*More mountain biking
*Attempt to learn how to surf
*Do the backcountry ski loop in Park City (if the snow cooperates with me)
*XC ski in Yosemite
*Build myself a fixed gear
*More hill running because the season is officially on again with BigSur Marathon 2007 in April.

. Any engineers out there, does your company need a summer intern?
What kind of engineer are you?
10. Do some rock-climbing, rollerblading and other stuff.
9. Transistion to more weight-lifting
8. Take a ski trip to Steamboat Springs
7. White Rock Marathon (I'm doing 1/2)
6. Form MS150 Team for our local tri club
5. Spearhead expansion chapter of local tri club, kickoff mid-Jan.
4. Give this trail running thing a shot
3. Swim once a week...technique and drills mainly
2. Long bike ride once a week (maybe spin class once/wk too)
1. Sleep in at least ONE day of the weekend.
Now that I've put this to paper, this seems like a lot. Maybe I'll ditch the swim, trail run and bike ride and instead....hmmmm....fly into Tampa, get a full-body wax, slip into some tight lycra--SEXY!--, put some funky music through the head-phones, and then bee-bop rollerblade all the way down the Causeway-to-Clearwater Beach. (this one is for you TriGuy...ha ha ha)
J-Man
J-Man...when did ya say you're comin' to town??? I gotta see that.... Hey I know! We can skate together to Triguy's trail and hog the entire path with our headphone a-blarin' so he has to chase us down on his MTB....could make for an interesting workout!

8. Keep in touch with the family
7. Play in the dirt more (on wheels and feet)
6. Figure out an IM Ky training schedule
5. Relax -- with a book, a crochet project, good friends, a movie, or combos of all

2. Enjoy time with the boy (both working out and not)
1. The Big 4: stronger, passion, faster, desire (as blogged)
I didn't take an offseason last year. This year, I paid for it in terms on injuries. In fact, I was on my way about 1 month ago to being on the up and up and then injured my knee in a different spot and have to stop all forms of swimming, cycling, and running. So now that I actually get an off-season...
1. rehab the knee and slowly, SLOWLY get back to all things endurance
2. if knee permitting, do some bodyboarding. Haven't done it since I started tri's.
3. hit the weight room
4. improve diet (ie: no ice cream, cookies, etc)
5. figure out some races for '07
6. Stretch, a lot (lack of flexibility was one of the cause of the injuries)
7. dream about all the cool races/rides that i want to do.
8. SLEEP
6. Figure out an IM Ky training schedule
IronMan kyillee!!! (IM Ky) sweet how that turned out for you ;)
Hyperactive Trifueler!!!! (I refuse to let the status go :p)
yup! It's my race :D
I've heard that IM Ky is a kinder, gentler race.
Can I sign up for it?

Great article.
Though I am not on a "Lance" level of fitness, I agree with the idea of keeping up fitness and a strong base. The "Ullrich" method doesn't work for me.
I am primarily in this this to keep myself healthy, which I want to do year round.
Changing workouts and doing more fun activities does keep it interesting.:D

Hmm.. Perhaps Ky is the abbreviation for Kentucky and there is actually such an event as Ironman Kentucky. Oh well.
I thought You meant you were training for "Ironman Kyilee"
which is like saying, "I'm doing my own race." - a metaphor for training at your own pace, etc.
so I said..
Though beads might think it funny if I said I was doing Ironman Kyilee, and then we'd be in trouble.

Geoff,
I know you are quite the wordsmith, so anything you wrote wouldn't be by accident.
If you wrote that you were doing Ironman Kyliee I would have a tough time controlling myself and my comments.
I can't help myself I am a 12 year old mentality trapped in a 39 year old body!:D

Kyilee where did you find race course information. I checked ironman.com and found no details.
Maybe I overlooked something..

I have one more big race before my season's over, but I'm thinking about what I want to do with my down time. Here's my top 10 choices...
10. Host a wine night and actually drink the wine
9. Start my playtime after the sun comes up for a change
8. Laps? Never heard of 'em!
7. Get off the road and into the trails
6. Bury my heart rate montior
5. Put away the powdered nutrition and eat food that tastes good
4. Forget about LT, OLY, HR, IM, AT, HIM, and other funky acronyms that make no sense to regular humans
3. Buy clothes that look cool, not ones that keep me cool
2. Buy Roller Blades and become "Roller-girl"
1. Work hard on reducing my number of tan lines :D
