New Tire?
if the LBS said not to change it then i would go with that. However i like to get new tires and tubes in before a race just to for piece of mind. try to upgrade to tubulars those are almost bullet proof.

I'd get the new tires and tubes about a week out of the race. Better safe than sorry.
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
I agree about getting new tires and tubes. You can still use the ones you have now as training tires after the race. Just be sure to ride on the new ones a couple of times before the race.
Don't trust what the LBS said unless you actually trust the person who is telling you this info. On that note, get new tires and tubes. Like you said, you wanbt to be at the finish line, not mile 65 of the bike. Get the new tires, mount them and give them a spin outside before the race and then you'll be set to go.
We go around about this everytime an IM is on the horizon.
There are those who swear that 2k on a tire is nothing and it won't give you any probs. The other faction says change em out...You have an aweful lot of bread (money) riding on this and with the buzz of race week the last thing you need to worry about is getting a puncture.
I'm with that faction...when in doubt (and you are) change em out!

Thanks for the advice. I went ahead and picked up a Continental Grand Prix 4000, which is said to be a pretty durable tire. I'm not at the level where a racing tire is my concern, so durability is big for me!

So I'm into my taper for IM Florida and I was wondering whether I needed to change out the front tire of my bike. The front tire has roughly 2000miles on it. I took it to the shop last week (about 100miles ago) and they said a tire change wouldn't really be neccessary. Basically, I want to end Florida at the finish line not at mile marker whatever because of a mechanical. What would you recommend?
