Anyone following Chris? He was out of the water with the first crowd, but they haven't mentioned him since.
What's his number?

Good resource when you're wondering who they're looking at on the camera.

Is it just me or is the coverage over at IronmanLive not that good? I am not exactly complaining because at least we can get some info but the announcers are not very good and their camera coverage is a bit shady.

Why in the heck can't I connect to the webcast? It's still giving me the page from last week!!
Ok....all better now.

yeah, sometimes shots of the white line or the scrub at the side of the road...
but it's a lot better than waiting for nbc to edit it down to an hour and find a slot that won't interrupt football...
New course record for Stadler. Crazy. Looks like a nice day for a race though (cool and wet).
Sucks about Rick and Dick Hoyt though. I was really hoping to see them compete live.

Can someone clarify this for me?
When they say that athletes are racing 10bpm under threshold (for example), are they referring to Aerobic threshold or Anaerobic threshold?
In my experience going even remotely fast and racing under Aerobic threshold are things that wouldn't go together. That would be like 120bpm for me. I get that high walking to the store.

I would assume they mean their anaerobic threshold.
Speed hurts; how fast do you want to go?
Triathlete: OK, so what about the strong bikers, like Normann Stadler, who won in 2004 but flatted out last year?Peter Reid: Normann is a classic Thomas Hellriegel. In 2004 he had the race of his life, and he'll be a top-five guy this year, but he'll never be on top again because he's a marked guy. I don't want to say flash in the pan because Thomas was always a factor, but if Stadler has a great race this year he might place fifth. He can't run, and, as we saw last year, he can crack on race day. I hate to say it, but in 2004 he kind of got lucky. We all let him go. We thought he was going to be a non-factor but he rode away from the field and he won the race. That happens every few years. The last time someone did that before Thomas [Hellriegel, in 1997] was Scott Molina back in the late 1980s.
Heh, would be funny to see Peter eat his words. 10 miles in and Stadler is 10 minutes ahead. Lets see if Norman can hold up the pace.

He's looking good. At this point, it's his race to lose.

They just showed Chris coming through an aid station. He's looking pretty good.
Oh my god! they just showed him going to a port-a-potty!

Helicopter shot of Chris entering the porto-potty!
EDIT: Port-a-potty? Whatever.

they just followed chris into the bathroom.. that's great.

You say "tomato" .... ;)

Heh, they should get the chopper to hover just outside Chris's porto potty, filming him as he leaves, just for fun.
A good story to tell the kids!

Unless Normann cracks, this one's over. Macca has to make up 37 seconds a mile.
Speed hurts; how fast do you want to go?
Macca just picked up 1:20 in a mile. I hope you puts the hammer down and goes for it!

10 miles left...now the race begins (or so they say)

I wonder if Faris can make up 9 minutes...Norman seems like he's hurting a bit.

He does look as though he slowed down, but he's still pretty quick.. Hopefully he does it.. that would be good.. 5 miles to go!

I did say Macca was going to win this thing, didn't I? ;-)

Woohooo that was so much fun! A nice exciting race and way to go Chris!
This is sooo inspiring. This almost (not quite) makes me want to do an ironman. Gosh triathletes are so hot!
It is truely inspiring! I am going to watch until the last finisher crosses.
thanks for watching and sending Chris good vibes. he had an awesome race, though he says it was tough and he struggled on the run. But he held on strong even after the chase group ran him down at about mile 5 and held to a top ten finish and 1st American. So stoked for him right now. I'll post pics later tonight.
Are you watching this?
The clock says 12:40:00
It's freakin' amazing!
They are actually running through a swamp at the finish line!
I mean the water is 6" deep!
They're kicking up waves as they cross the line.

Hey all. I figured we could chat here about the race throughout the day (assuming a thread like this hasn't already been made:p )
Faris currently leading the swim. He's one crazy mofo.
Any race predictions? I'm think Cam Brown or Faris for the men, and Michellie Jones for the women. I think she has the potential to beat Natascha Badmann.
