Ladies, after you had kids how easy was it to train for triathlons? What changed afterwards? Was there anything that you thought would be easy but wasn't? How did you balance your time?

My husband and I would like to start having kids in the next year or so and I would like to do a few more triathlons inbetween and after I have my kiddos, but I'm thinking about just keeping with the running part after kiddos and just trying to get feedback on it now.

Having children will make a bigger difference than you expect. If you have anything that you really want to try or do, I suggest you do it now. Kids make completing your training/races more difficult. The difficulty could vary depending upon how much your husband helps and what your expectations as a Mom are, along with how much you can delegate and how many things you do besides parenting and training. Getting enough sleep while you have a baby is a challenge and it never fails they seem to get sick at critical training times. Be flexible and strive for those goals a bit more loosely and you won't stress out. I have two who are 18 & 19 years old and I am happy that I have children.

Completing a few triathlons before I had kids was one of my goals. I know how much time it takes when I just have a husband and a job and what a balance that is when it comes to the training, so I highly doubt that I would be able to continue doing triathlons when my kids are so little, that and the whole money aspect, but that's why I wanted to do them now anyways.

thanks,

I have a 2 year old and a 4 year old. Me and hubby work full time, plus we operate a small ranching business. I never knew about the tri world until this year, when I decided to use triathlon as a way to get the weight off, and build the self image up.

I'd say wait until the baby is a year old, then get back into it. I only train for sprints currently, mostly because of the getting into shape factor. I get up at 4am on work days and get my training in. I have to be flexible, because when hubby is out of town, then leaving sleeping babes is not an option, so then I try to squeeze something in during lunch or double up or whatever.

Of coure when they get sick, then you training schedule gets blown all to heck. As they get older it gets easier in some ways and harder in others as they start to get involved in their activities. If tri training makes you feel good about yourself, and you want to continue - then do it. Just be flexible. Check out the blog world on triathlons. There are a lot of moms in training.

You'll be surprised at what you can do that you never thought you could once you become a mom. You are an awesome woman now, once you become a mom...you become Superwoman - trust me. :)
