I’m returning from a running injury, a muscle fiber tear in my vastus lateralis. (outer-most quad muscle)
My NCAA DII team has our A-race on Sunday, October 22 – An 8k.
I have been running every 3rd day, on grass, and wearing a support sleeve. Today I did 12 miles, and tomorrow is just a gentle pool run. Should I not run again until Sunday, and just cross train in the interim?
I don’t really intend on giving the race EVERYTHING, as I don’t want to re-injure myself. Just wondering what the advice may be on this one.

Since it sounds like your "A" race really isn't an "A" race for you...take it easy between now and then. Run easy and short in the coming week, twice... maybe, and don't hammer the cross training.
Remember your long term goals...

I think you're right. I may just run once, to maintain the motions.
Thanks!

Where are you at school? Good luck with your xc race.
I ran D3 xc freshman year, but then we got a new coach that definitely would not let me do any fall tri's and there was a new england collegiate tri series pilot season this fall... (http://www.nectc.net)
