Bike transport question

I have recently installed fork mounts on the top of my toolbox in the bed of my truck (got tired of jamming my bike into the extended cab). While this is a great transport method for my mountain bike, a few people have told me not to mount my carbon fork road bike on it. they claim my fork will break from the force around bends. I have done so a half a dozen times( traveled as long as 3 hours). I think the punishment riding on the road is greater, however now I am questioning it.

Does anyone travel this way-- mount your bike in the bed of your truck? If so, are you confident in the strength of the carbon fork?

Thanks

I do it. I don't see how it is any different from mounting your bike on the top of the car! I made my own system and use tie downs to prevent the bike from swaying...this may alleviate some of the stress to the fork plus prevent it from falling off the truck.

sounds to me like your system is very similar to that sold by yakima and thule for mounting bikes in truck beds. I doubt they'd sell fork mounts for that purpose if it wasn't safe :)

Did it for quite a while with no problems.

Hit your fork with a hammer. I bet it won't break. That's a hell of a lot more force than the centripetal force that is being put on the bike when you are taking corners while driving. Drive on......Drive on.

I secure a mag trainer ($11 at a garage sale) to the bed of my pickup with a cargo bar, and mount the rear tire of my bike to that. A bungee or two stabilizes the front tire.
