I have considered joining a Tri Club, but none are close to me.
Most of them are 30 Miles away or more and I have a hard enough time getting any workout at all much less commuting to get a workout. What are your experiences with this issue?

Professional coaching interests me also. I've done alot of homework and used to be in great shape. Once I loose weight my run should come back to pretty good form. I swim well and had a swim coach a few years ago. Should I consider getting coaching now that I am just starting Tri's or wait a few months and try to get myself ready by loosing 20-30 pounds first.

Belonged to a tri club in the past, but like you it was really too far to be active in...As someone new to tri's I think clubs are a good idea..like running clubs or the local bike club. You meet lots of folks to train with and develop good friendships...If the distance is too great, find a few other tri-heads and start your own! That's how most clubs start anyway.
As to coaching...work through it on your own or get a personal trainer to help with the weight loss and the re-focus on athletics.
After that a tri coach is your call.
Here at tri fuel you'll find folks who love a tri coach others who self coach. Both have their merits. While I think a tri coach is not necessary for success, you have to find what works for you. In fact that is sort of the Trifuel Mantra: Find what works for you.
Triathlon like any endurance sport is a journey of self discovery...that is what makes it so special.
Besides...here at tri fuel you already belong to a great club and have access to many people with years of experience and we're here for ya!

I've been a memer of a tri club since the beginning of the year. And with my schedule, a two year old at home and being 45 minutes or so from the training rides I haven;t made one yet.

That said I still plan on joining again for next year. I have made it to a couple of club meetings and volunteered at a club race. I'm on the e-mail list that is very active and entertaining, I've met some very knowledgable people who were willing to help by relating personal experiences in races in our area. I have been able to meet people at races and it's a great feeling to pass a familiar face and get a wave in the middle of a tough race. Not to mention that there are a lot of deals through club sponsors.

And I have noticed that as the membership grows people more in my area are starting to appear. I'm hoping that over the next year I may be able to start a training ride down here. So I say go for it, I joined because it was the closest club with a strong multisport contingent and the benefits have gone beyond what I had expected.

I joined a Triclub early this year. My main motivation was that I knew they did some organized rides on the IMWI course, and as that was my first IM - made a lot of sense. I did participate in a few runs and the OWS sessions. They also had several coaching sessions with USAT coaches - those were beneficial. Also the discounts are nice. They are beneficial and you can get as much out of them as you want - I still do the vast majority of my workout sessions.
