shoes for achilles tendinitis?
The shoes may not be the magic bullet you're looking for. AT takes a long time to heal, not just a few days off.
You may want to consider taking at least 3-4 weeks off from running and then ease very slowly back into it. Work on your swim and hit the elyptical to maintain endurance, throw in some biking if it doesn't aggravate your injury.
Concentrate on strengthening your AT before you get back out to heavy pavement pounding or even better, hit the trails.
Both Brooks and New Balance make nice cushioned rides, read the reviews and see which best fits your running style or hit your local
shop.

Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.
Lots of stretching and rest is the key. You can see what I did when I got mine in about may 10th or so, after the Vancouver mary in my blog (link below and just go to that month). It was a prob that took six weeks to clear at which time most of my workouts were on the bike and aquarunning. This kept my fitness up but didn't speed the recovery. The big thing is that it takes time to heal with this kind of injury cause there is little blood in the area. I tried massage, acupuncture and they did help except I kept pushing it by trying to run. This of course, didn't help. Best thing is rest and stay off it. You can bike. If it persists then try to place sole inserts into the heel of your current running shoes to raise the heel. While this may help it is only temporary. I repeat, just rest it and it will heal. Best of luck.

My Blog

Hey all,
Has anyone heard of or used running shoes that are particularly well suited to address achilles tendinitis? Right now I use Brooks GTS which I like quite a bit, but the AT just won't go away (and have tried PT, night splints, etc).
Thanks!
