Rehab Through Long Rides

Yesterday morning, in lieu of a 20 mile training run, I completed the longest ride I have ever attempted. 3 hours, 36 minutes, 55 seconds, which rounded off to 63 miles.
My Coach schedules complete “rest-days every 10 days, and today is my complete rest day.
Ironically, the injury I have been dealing with since Sept. 2, is feeling better and better, and as of right now, I have complete range of motion, with no pain anywhere throughout the vastus lateralis (my injured quad).
Consequently, I am working on strengthening it through flexibility exercises, as well as through daily ultra-sound treatments. The sports therapist who I saw 6 days ago, said that with the stretches, active recovery, and ultra-sounds, I would likely be running slowly again in one week. Tomorrow marks the one week mar. What can I expect tomorrow after a complete day of rest today? Thanks!

I dont know what to tell you to expect, but if you've had a complete rest day, there is a chance that you'll be feeling good enough to do more than you're ready for, especially because you're in shape to bike 63 miles. So I would take your first few runs back slower than you want and shorter than you want. I've had multiple long breaks from running do to inujuries and know from experience that you never want to do too much too soon or you'll be out for even longer. Take it one step at a time and good luck

Indeed. The main reason I was injured was because my coach was changing my stride/gait, in efforts to make me more effiicient for XC season. I have only raced once this season, and am trying to stay healthy, as my long term goal is Disney in January (distance background, first time XC runner this year)
Thanks again

Yup, so I got out of bed this morning and did a light 3 miles. I have discovered that I am sore because my weakened muscle is not used to the concussive nature of running yet. I started off getting my normal running stride right, which felt funny. Although the ups and downs of the trails did make it sore at the end, but I'm back to feeling normal now as I type this.
