Any one doing the Army 10 Miler?

I know there are a few military folks out there so I thought I would see if anyone was going to do that Army 10 miler this year or if they have done it in past.

I am going to do the race this year and I am really looking forward to the trip to D.C. When I was overseas they put on an Army 10 miler at Camp Buhring Kuwait. I did that one and have wanted to do that real race in D.C. ever since. So I'm excited that I will be able to fulfill that dream.
:) :D

The ten miler is very well put together and there are a WHOLE LOT OF PEOPLE. Now the downfall was I ran it in 05 and it was actually the Army 11.4 miler.

What happened was 5 minutes after the race started there was a "suspicious" package found under the 14th street Bridge. That’s the last bridge we cross back over to head back into the Pentagon. So in the middle of the race unbeknownst to us runners they changed the course. So I was hitting every mile marker and I was happy because I was doing really well for me. This continued all the way until mile marker 6. Then markers stopped showing up so I was like it's still cool I am flying. Well the end never seems to come. Finally I can see the finish line and I look down at my watch and I was like WTF I didn't just gain 1:30 for every single mile what the hell is going on. At this point I am getting pissed because I had no idea they changed the course. I hear the lady next to me wearing GPS saying damn that was 11.4 miles. I looked at her and said are you serious. I find out later what happened.

All things said and done it’s a nice race. And I now have GPS for that reason :)

Jstyle ~ Make sure you don't wear that GPS this weekend. I'm scheduled to run, but am backing out since I'm so annoyed at the new restrictions. Check the homepage of the ATM -- no water bottles, HR monitors, cellphones, etc... basically nothing except "wrist watch, American flags, and gel packets". that's it. MAJOR security this year -- somewhat of an over-reaction to an event that could not have been controlled at the starting line anyway.

Anyway, read the regs before you head to the starting line. I had a great time last year, even with the extra distance, but am bailing in protest this year.

Personally...I live in the DC area and why anyone would do the Army Ten is beyond me. What is it now...30,000 people?
Cherry Blossom,Cherry Pit, Annapolis, GW Parkway, and any number off fall half mary's make for much better racing with smaller crowds and better swag.
Only wrist watches? Gee just like running in the dark ages of 10 years ago.

I heard about that problem last year.
At least they heard the news ahead of time and were able to reroute a bit.

I think they should up the security at all the events.
All you should be allowed to wear is running shoes and socks,

and thats it!! :D

Same for airport security.

Shoes only!

With all the nakeditity, everyone would much too distraced to plan any terrorist acts, and most terrorists could not be naked or around all these naked people because of religious beliefs.
