Any goals? Races? They usually help for motivation BUT the big thing is: Don't think about it, just go out and do it. If after 10min you don't like it, go back. Then you have a prob.

Overtraining and burn out isn't always physical; many times your just get this mental lack of will. Take it easy, and just tell yourself to go try something new, be it rock climbing, mountain biking, rowing, yoga, hiking or trail running or something else. This might give you the rest you need from the triathlon focus and peak your interest to keep doing something. I tend to get those mentally lazy weeks after a long block of training or a few hard races. I'll take a week and just try to have fun doing something else and it usually comes back to me.

If you have goals, they might be too big or too long term. Break things down, ie. like when you're climbing a hill on your bike and you tell yourself, "ok, up to the next tree...ok, up to that street sign...ok, up to that deer...STOP MOVING DEER!!"

Rousseau (I think) said "The reason for man's unhappiness is his inability to sit quietly in his room."
WE think we must always push,push,push...when we don't have to.
There are times in life when it's ok to not want to do much,It will pass.
Set a few goals, try something new in your down time...you will know when it's time to pick it up again...

Well, coming from a different perspective, there may be something else in your life that is causing you mental or emotional stress. Evaluate what's going on right now: Relationship problems? New school or overwhelmed by schoolwork? Family problems? Recent move? Illness of a family member or friend? Weather blues? Transition of some kind?

All of these things (and others) can and do affect our emotional state and mood. Maybe there's something personally going on that's affecting your motivation. If you think something else (besides training burnout) is the culprit, go meet with your doctor or a counselor. You have to take care of yourself both physically and mentally ;)

Maybe you are in a training rut.
Do something different,
Take off your watch and HRM.
Ride a mountain bike,
Do a trail run,

Do it for the fun and not the performance.
it might clear your head.

Nothing to it, but to do it

Just reading your own words to me answers the question. Sounds like you are swamped with life, and maybe right now working out is feeling more like another box to check off on your "To Do" list rather than a relief or pleasurable activity. Same thing with socializing with friends. So, kind of agreeing with Star, maybe you are just overwhelmed and need to figure out how to release the pressure on yourself for right now to get through this period in your life.

Sort out the "wanna do's" and the "gotta do's", and make sure there's nothing else majorly weighing on your psyche. You'll pull through, just don't place unreasonable demands on your mind and body. Ironman is a laudable goal, but only if you're at a place in your life where you can make the needed sacrifices to achieve it. Maybe right now isn't that time. If you can figure all this out, it may allow your motivation to return in time.

Hang in there!

So the opposite is the problem.

You are not taking this seriously enough!!:D
Get a watch and HRM and a road bike,
and get serious will you

Scott..you sure you aren't in politics?
Balzindave...Seriously...take some time off..drink your favorite beverage...watch some movies...read a good,non-sports or tri oriented book. Sleep late.
It will come back...and when it does...get a plan, a good one for your goal races next year and stick to it....including the rest days!

Beads and Anton...you two need to behave!! The two of you seem to hijack most every post...are we going to have to separate you? A fellow trifueler is in need of some support here and you're bringing politics into the mix? Good gosh, we don't want to depress him even more! The state of the nation is not going to give him that calming, relaxing place where he can leave his worries behind! I think maybe your HRM has interferred with your brainwaves :D (So, Blazindave...we know what's wrong with them).
