I am doing a 12k (7.5 mile) trail run in December. It is extremely hilly and claims to be one of the toughest trail runs in the Midwest.

Anyway does someone have a good training program for this distance? This seems like a somewhat odd distance but should be an interesting challenge to keep the off season fun but again I am not sure exactly how to prepare.

Any advice on a training program would be great.

Thanks!

I have no idea what your current long run distance is up to or how fast you might be, but the best way to prep is to run trails, especially hilly ones if the race is hilly. If you can't manage an hour or trail running now, work up to at least an hour, as distance on a hilly trail can make you 1-3 min/mile slower than your road race pace. Most importantly have fun with it, I love being out on trails, its such a fun atmosphere.
One other thing, if it feels way to steep to run, walk it - you might end up going faster.
