Okay so how do we pitch that one?
Cross-dressing for safe cycling? :D
Maybe we can design a helmet that is smaller and has a womens wig on the outside.
Then you get the benefit of appearing helmetless and being a woman.

I am afraid the stats you quoted probably exclude NYC.

If you get brushed by a car you are lucky.
Cabs in NYC have little decals they put on their doors when they bag a cyclist

I haven't seen that here in California. I have people passing closer than that all the time. And I shave my legs.
But still beads, that would be a good idea. You need to put one together and then have someone take a picture of you while you're trying it out so you can post it here. :D

Thats where you make the money on all the accesories.
We start with the whole "cross dressing for safe cycling" theme.
You need the ''Hair Helmet''
Then you can add the "Chest Protectors"
then add the "Booty Shorts''
and for the more modest look the "sport kilt''
I'll make sure to have copies of 'Trifuel Girls Gone Wild' vol 1-7 on DVD available for the male customers, so they don't feel they are compromising their masculinity by "cross dressing for safe cycling"

Side Effect of Cycling Helmets
Are you safer in a helmet? There's little question when it comes to avoiding or reducing head injury in a crash. But a British study has found that drivers pass closer when overtaking a helmet-wearing cyclist.
The researcher, Ian Walker of the University of Bath, rode a bicycle with ultrasonic distance sensors and a video camera to measure and verify distances. He was overtaken by about 2,500 vehicles. His findings:
---Drivers will pass a bare-headed cyclist with an average of 8 cm (3.1 inches) more clearance, presumably because the rider is seen as being less experienced or less predictable.
---Cars gave an average of 1.3 meters (4.3 feet) of room to any cyclist. Trucks passed 19 cm (7.4 inches) closer. Busses passed 23 cm (9 inches) closer.
Walker also wore a woman's wig to see if there was a difference in how drivers passed female cyclists. He was given an average of 14 cm (5.5 inches) more room.
