Burning smell during spin class?
Hmmmm, I teach spin at my local gym. And I've taugh/taken tons of class. Never had that one. Maybe someone had spilled some gatorade or something with sugar on it at the end of a class and it dried to the wheel and burned off. I am not sure. Thats about the only thing I can think of.
so, Fitty, not only do you produce smokin' records, but you're smokin' the spin class? heehee spin on, brother:D

I have not smelled a burning smell, but have definitely smelled something strange. I'm talking a smell that is different than some of the BO smells that emit from my classmates, which is just flat gross. It is definitely a smell that is not there at the beginning of class, but develops throughout the class. So...I don't know that it is a smoke smell, but it is something that I have always surmised is related to the wheels...either that or someone in class REALLY stinks....
Does the burning smell like bacon? Maybe its the smell of people getting into better shape.
If you wish to be out front, then act as if you were behind.
Ok I will ask what do you mean a spin class?

Anyone ever smelled smoke during spin class? I was in a class a while back, and began to smell something burning. I thought nothing of it at first, but it became stronger, and I started to wonder if my flywheel was "smoking." I thought "Please! Don't flatter yourself bro, you're not that fast!" I couldn't see any smoke, and nobody else seemed to notice, but the odor persisted for the remainder of the class. When it was over I bent down and smelled my flywheel and sure enough it smelled smoky!
I asked the teacher afterward if her flywheel ever emitted a smoky smell. She laughed and said no.
Unfortunately, I've not smelled anything burning during a spin class ever since, which leads me to believe I was either feeling pretty good that day, or some kind of anomaly in the flywheel/friction assembly of that particular bike was causing the smell.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has ever observed this phenomenon?
