Wetsuits
Just like the bike...fit is everything. Its hard to be fast if you're uncomfortable. I have a bigger build with a long torso, so many of the suits I tried out didnt work for me.
The other question...full or john? I live in Michigan, so this was a no brainer :)
I bought a Quintana Roo HydroFull and I cant be happier. QR offered a great fit for me, excellent warranty, warm in the Great Lakes and flexable in the shoulders. I've had no problem with chafing around the neck and the quick release zipper is really cool. Just give it a tug upwards and the zipper pulls apart. It seems like everyrace I see someone that has their singlet fouled in their wetsuit zipper...Used to happen with my old suit and it sucks.

I had major problems finding the right fit. I am 5'9 with shorter legs and a bigger upper body. I ended up with a DeSoto because it is a two-piece design and I could get a bigger top. I was a little worried that the top would ride in the water and that it would be tough to get off. Neither has been a problem.
Ironman Stealth for me here.
This one fit me the best...kinda sucks that it was the most expensive wetsuit in the store (thank god it was on sale at the time) but it practically feels like I'm wearing nothing when it's on. I used it for the first time last week and I love it. Can't wait to use it again!

From what I've heard most of the major triathlon wetsuit brands are all pretty darn similar in terms of warm and hydrodynamics. The most important thing is to go try a bunch of brands on with different sizes and see what fits you like a glove. You want it tight, but not too tight. Then you can look at different levels of suit, the zipper styles, the neck lines, etc. Slowtwitch has a few different articles about wetsuits, how to fit, whats the technology, etc. http://www.slowtwitch.com/mainheadings/swimcenter/swim.html
In terms of Full or Long John, my comment would be unless you know you're going to be swimming in fairly warm water for your near future, if you only have money to buy one suit, get the full. Later work on expanding your collection.
cheers guys info much appreciated
If you are only going to be using it for IronmanWA and other warm water races I suggest that you get a sleeveless one. but if you are going to use it for cool water races as well then I agree with one of the previous pots in that you should consider a full sleeve suit. My friend recently purchased a 2XU suit and he loves it, I have a cheap $100 non-specific wetsuit that I originally bought for boogiebording and surfing before I started doing tris. Because you are doing ironman I suggest that you spend the extra $ and get a tri-specific suit. Well hope your training goes well and maybe I will see you in Busselton, no way i am not doing the race! Thats for crazy people but I will be working at an aid station on the bike leg.
Cheers,

The other thing to check is the outer coating. There are cheaper suits where you hand will stick to the suit as you brush it across, and pricier suits where your hand glides along...that extra coating does a lot to prolonging the life of your suit, and protect it against incidental tears.

Ok guys need some help in getting the right wetsuit....I'm new to triathlon and am competing in the western australian ironman in december. I have no idea about wetsuits at all and was wondering if some one could suggest a good one to get!!
