Can certain workouts affect your mood?

My latest observation about training: I am more irritable on Wednesdays. That is usually a 40-mile ride and a short run after. (Its not my longest ride of the week) The weird thing is that I don't go in to work til mid-afternoon that day, so after my routine, I come home, eat, sometimes catch a short nap, just chill and check out Trifuel. So it seems to me that since I get most of this day to myself, I should be in a great mood....but I've noticed that I'm usually more irriatble, impatient and generally grumpy! Do any of you have a specific day or training routine that affects you like that?

Star: sure, workouts affect our mood; especially right after a workout, it's natural to feel particularly happy as a consequence of dopamine/endorphine release in the brain.

But your pervading mood throughout the day doesn't have to do with that day's workout. How you feel on any given day will be a result of the rest, nutrition, and workouts you put in for the preceding 48 hours.

If Wednesday is your most "pissed off" day, I'd wager that Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday is your hardest workout day of the week. Don't fret, it's all natural.

On the other hand, if your mood is bad ALL the time, you're probably overtrained, and should cut back a bit.
