I did the Lake of the Pines Labor Day Triathlon yesterday in the foothills east of Sacramento. Perfect summer weather.
I did the meduim course which was a .6 mi. swim/5 mile bike and 3.8. mi. run.
This was my second tri in as many months.
Used a wetsuit for the first time and what a difference it wade while in the water. Felt like I was floating across the top of the water. This was the longest swim distance I have done.
Was very nervous prior to the start but once I got going I calmed down. Still getting used to open water swimming vs. pool laps. I am improving but slower than I had hoped.
The bike leg was a little tougher than the tri I did last month. This one had hills in both the bike and run portions. The last tri I did was pretty much flat. No mechanical problems and I felt good.
The run is where I started to slow way down. Ended up walking/running the entire route. Crossed the finish line and enjoyed the post-race festivities.
Definitely a different race that last month. Learned a lot and had a great time.
After having completed two sprint tri's I am finding out how steep the learning curve is with all three disciplines, even having done them all seperately throughout my life. I am getting a better idea of how much work even s sprint tri involves.
I may do one more tri in October and then call it a season and spend the winter working on skills.
Now I can start my list of events for next year. Looks like my work is cut out for me...
