Chain clicking when I stand on the pedals?

It seems ok when I'm going hard sitting down, but as soon as I stand up and start mashing on the pedals, the chain (I think it's the chain anyway) starts making a pretty regular clicking sound.

Anyone know what causes this? Someone told me it might be that my chain is out of sync with my chainrings.

Its likely your bottom bracket. They are notorious for under power ticking noises.

Is it an ISIS or external bearing BB? If its ISIS, take the crank off (need crank extractors) remove the BB (need bb tool) clean the threads on the bb shell, and the bb cups, teflon tape the threads on the shell and reinstall. Clean and grease the BB splines and reinstall. It only take a few minutes.

How a chain would be out of sync with a crank is beyond me.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
