2006 Chicago Triathlon - My first Olympic
Congrats on your Oly!
All of your issues are easy to improve on mostly with with some repitition. Use some body glide, especially on the lower leg helps get the wetsuit off. Lots of transition runs off the bike will help with the run, and just practicing and being organized in transition will reduce those times. Glad you are hooked and are planning out more races.

Nice job for your first oly! 9:45, ouch! I was at 9:25 with the other F20-24's and I thought that was bad... Don't worry about your transitions for this race - I mean the transition area is sooo huge compared to any other tri you'll ever do practically. If I subtract about 1:15 from each of my transition times, I get my usual ones.... Glad you caught the oly bug and good luck at your next few races!
I agree that the event was well-organized. I was very fortunate to have started around 7:40, almost right after the sprint competitors.
And next year I will definitely hang out at the expo some more, ogling all the expensive gear for sale.

Raced in the 2006 Accenture Chicago Triathlon this weekend in the International M30-34 Age Group. This was a great event! It was well organized, the people were very friendly and helpful, and everyhting seemed to go off without a hitch.
While I have not done many of these events, I am sure that is quite difficult to keep everyone happy. For instance, everyone in my age group (including myself) was quite disappointed with our start times, mine was 9:45am, which meant we had to wait around for 4 hours after the transition area closed to jump in the lake. I was concerned that it was going to get quite hot outside while we waited for the race start, but it kept cool throughout most of the morning, unitl the run when the sun was blazing. One neat thing about going almost last was I got race with the Pros, well not so much with them, but I saw them run past me at blazing speed at the end of the run course.
All in all, I had a great time and performed close to what I expected. I hoped to break 3 hours, but came short of that due to a flat on the bike course and I underestimated how hard it would be to transition to the run. Also, my trasition times were pitiful and definitely need work. I swam much faster than I ever did in my training and was very thankful that I had a wetsuit, although this was the reason that my T1 time was so slow, I couldn't get the thing off.
I have the bug now and cannot wait for my next event. Already planning my schedule of Olympics for next year.
See you all out there.
Josh:)
