Hi all

just wondering how everyone copes with injury. I do all my body maintenance stuff but it's a part of the sport. I noticed I am very hard to get along with when I can't train, I have been sedentary now for two days and I feel so frustrated with anything and everything, it's awful to be angry for no really good reason.
does anyone else get like this? is it just me? i love triathlon so much, my bunch knows me better than most of my other friends, when i miss a session with them it's hell.

any good strategies?

Massages when tight or have a overuse injury, if worse I hit the physio and see if there is something worse going on. More time in the hot tub, lots of stretching, some additional time in the pool to reduce impact stress and a few more beers with the pals usually does it for me.

Hey Iron Man...I hear you! I think most have trouble taking off a day, or being injured, which requires a few days off... if not more. I too am more irritable on my day off, or when I'm recovering from a race (with or without injuries) and can't train....is that withdrawl talking??? (hello, I'm Andrea and I'm a triathlon addict).

On those days I do a yoga routine, which helps the body and spirit to relax and stretch. (I know lots of guys diss yoga...but even football players are doing yoga and pilates these days and see the positive effects). I also try meditating or start planning my next race, even if its next season....it gives me something to look forward to and to get excited about. Massage is a nice treat too.

The most important thing is to let your body heal. If you get back into training too soon, you'll re-injure yourself. Sometimes taking time off is more painful than the injury itself! But if I've allowed my body to completely heal, its amazing how good that first run feels!

Stretching, massage, rest and low-no impact activities are best.
As Star said yoga is great.

Also the beauty of triathlon is if you are hurting you have swimming and biking as low impact alternatives :D

Nothing to it, but to do it
