Sportlegs is the pills that make your body stop producing lactic acid so there is no burning feeling. Just wondering if there was some sort of side effect or something bc I used one today and it seemed a little too good to be true...thanks!

I've used them once during a sprint tri on the recommendation of a friend. A sample came in the race packet. I don't really know that they helped me that much. Don't know, guess I need more testing.

Well i hate to be negative here but i find it extremely doubtful that a pill can stop the production of lactic acid. If it actually does i would be very weary of the procedure that it uses to do that but i HIGHLY doubt that it stops production of lactic acid. it doesnt seem physiologically possible....BE CAREFULL WITH STUFF LIKE THAT!!

i always go by the motto "if it is too good to be true...it probably is"

There are no shortcuts in this sports. Work hard, ride run and swim alot, eat right, and sleep are the best method of training. not some miracle pill.

Help me raise money for the LAF by donating anything that you can. Thank you so much!

I looked at the ingredient list at sportlegs.com . Basically it's vitamin D, calcium & magnesium. It seems you have to take rather a lot of them to get the desired effect, too (For most of us, 3 caps every 2 to 3 hours!). That's a lot of pill-popping if you're working at threshold effort.

I take an ICE BATH after a long work out---that takes care of the burning feeling real quic.

I've also become a convert to the ice bath after any run over 13 miles and any bike longer than about 4 hours. It has been working pretty well, although the involuntary scream when I first submerge tends to freak out my wife/dogs/neighbors, etc. After that it's all good, tho.

I have never used them, but it is not possible to stop the production of Lactic Acid. But, I guess everyone needs a sales pitch. Looking at the ingredients, its nothing you can't get from proper nutrition (pre-post meals). Looks pretty similar to antacids like tums, (calcium, magnesium, Vit. D). If it works as good as claimed, it must have something else in them. Maybe a large dose of "The Placebo Effect".

What sportlegs does is not stop the production of lactic acid. It raises your blood lactate level prior to strenous activity so that the body does not get a signal to produce excess amounts. I've used the product before in training and racing and have been very pleased with the results.

It works. The placebo effect is outstanding.

if it is part placebo effect well then that works for me! lol but I really think that has very little to do with it. THe first time I took it i had totally forgot about it when I started my ride and then about 3/4 of the way through I was still hanging with the fast pack of the group ride and that is when i remembered that I took it.

Isn't lactic acid a byproduct of the breakdown of pyruvate in energy production in your cells? My physisiology is a bit shaky but to not have lactic acid produced would mean part of the cycle in your cells for energy production is just not happening. Somethings not adding up for me:confused:

Not discrediting this product, as my memory is a bit shaky atm. I hope Biochem could chime in on this thread.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lactic_acid

"The purpose of lactate production is to regenerate nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) needed for glycolysis and thus allow adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production to continue."

http://cytosport.com/science/lacticacid.html
"1. Lactic acid is formed from the breakdown of glucose.
During this process the cells make ATP (adenosine triphosphate), which provides energy for most of the chemical reactions in the body. Lactic acid formation doesn't use oxygen, so the process is often called anaerobic metabolism. Lactate-related ATP production is small but very fast. This makes it ideal for satisfying energy needs anytime exercise intensity exceeds 50% of maximum capacity"

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
