Hello,

I am preparing for an Olympic Distance Tri and I have a real concern about my ability to complete the run portion of the Disney Tri. This past Sunday I participated in the Clermont Sprint Triathlon in Florida. It went OK, but I experienced some pretty intense pain in the back/outside of my right knee. I have felt this pain/injury before many times, but this time it was more intense because I didn't stop like I usually would have if I weren't in a race. I did race in a new pair of shoes, which is a factor, but I have felt this type of pain commonly. For instance, I went for a 2.5 mile run/walk with a friend and a few hours later went for about a 5 mile run, at a very casual and steady pace (10 min/mile). When I got done I had the pain in both of my knees....it feels like there is a tendon or ligament back there that is getting irritated from the constant lifting of my leg (the portion of the leg from the knee down). Like I said, experience this pain/irritation commonly so I have had to put at least 2 or 3 days rest between any run I do of over 3 miles. It may also be worth mentioning that I pushed myself harder than I like to in the Clermont Tri. Usually I pace myself by my heart-rate monitor, but I lost it on the swim. Any advice would be appreciated.

Happy Training,

Steven

All I can say is good luck. I have been battling what sounds like the same problem for 4 months. I have been told that is is ITBS, hamstring injury, fallear syndrome, inflamation of the condulat head, and my last diagnosis was a buldged disc in my back that is pinching a nerve. I am finally seeking a second opinion. Hope your doctors have more of a grasp of what is going on than mine do.
