Currently I have my Soloist setup with regular roadie bars and Syntace Clip ons. This has been my setup for the past year of Triathlons. I am looking to upgrade to a Full Aero (wing) package and have pretty much decided on want the new HED aerobars - really nice. Anyone got any experience on these.

Also - to convert from my current Roadie setup what would I need as far as cables etc. Any article or instructions on the Internet on how this should be properly done.

Thanks:rolleyes:

i think you should keep your roadie roadie. I have a soloist too, and i know the angles can be switched, but there are cable extensions you can put on a drop bar set, and set the extensions on a lever on the top of the clip ons.

i also have the hed aerobars but those are on my tri bike, and i love them...i dont need to try anything else.

If you get a flat, and don't have a tube, Suck it up and run it in!!!

Like tcrunner07, I'm a big HED fanboy. The soloist is a good bike to convert, but keep in mind that you won't have a road bike anymore, and the rides are quite different. You'll miss your old setup if you're on the tri bike exclusively.

If you do decide to go tri-only (or are going to buy another roadie to replace the soloist), I also heartily recommend the HED bars. S-bends kick so much ass.

Yes, I agree with what both of you have said, but here is what I plan on doing. I have been riding the Syntace Clip on setup for the past couple of months on ALL my rides - even on my "A" group (Roadie) rides. Since I have been riding wiht these guys for some time and I am smooth I don't have anyone complaining about some Tri guy on the bars. This has let me really tweak my position and learn to use my hamstrings more for more power. Before I woudl ride Roadie setup mostly and then switch to Tri postioin just before a race. I have a 1/2 IM in September and a couple of International distances - then I will start training for IM Arizona (April 2007) so I figured I might as well setup for full Tri mode through the winter months and do it RIGHT! HED looks like the way to go. I can sell my Syntace Clip ons and same my raodie bars for when I want to switch back - it just takes more effort to switch after going full blown with the HED setup. Thanks for the feedback guys! One last question - obviously I need bar end shifters, but waht about any special cables since my Soloist routes cables through the frame. Will I have to basically start over with new cables or simply disconnect what I have and re-route. Thanks

JCody,

Hey, I'm doing Ironman AZ in 07 too! It'll be my first IM, how about you?

Anyway, sounds like you've got a good plan there. Once January hits, it'll probably be OK to be on a tri bike all the time anyway. You will probably need new shifter cables, since the current ones will probably be too short to make it all the way to the end of the aerobars. The brake cables you can probably reuse. Shouldn't matter either way, cables are dirt cheap. (And no, there's no difference between road cables and tri cables, but yes, you might have to pull the existing cables out of the frame if they're too short).

You'll have no problem with the routing. I hear Cervelo makes the most mechanic-friendly internal cables out there. Anyway, just get your mechanic to do it.

you wont have a problem with the routing...but depending on hwo many miles and what type of terrain you are riding on...you might just what to get ur bike rewired anyways before the base season starts

If you get a flat, and don't have a tube, Suck it up and run it in!!!

Hopefully I won't have to be on the trainer *too* much -- they say Berkeley is a rideable town through the winder, except when it's pouring rain. I'm thinking of getting rollers to replace the trainer -- equal wear on the tires, better balance, all that. The trainer's nice though, since it means you can get on with the rest of your life (eg, read a textbook) while training.

Anyway, good luck to you too! What I'll need real luck on is NOT obsessing about this IM every moment of every day from now until April. I find myself daydreaming about the race already, and I have to remind myself that way too early to do that.
