Hello,

Here's a question that could prob. be answered in a thread or two.

I want to buy a new front tire. No problems w/ the current on, but it is the orginal. My bike has close to 3,000 miles on it. I've already replaced my rear tire two times as it had many holes. My current back tire is a: Vredestein Fortezza Road Tire. My question is: Can I buy the same tire for my front or are the two tires different? Its a 650x23C. Additionally, should I fix something that isn't broken (this would be more of a maintanence change)?

Thanks

mlbucey

Unless you are buying a specific front and rear tire ( GP attack/Force for example) you can use the same tire for the front.

It’s pretty normal to have a front tire outlast the rear tire 3-to-1. Check for tread wear, broken cords, or cuts in the tire. If you notice anything, I would replace the front tire. IMO you want your best tire in front…if your rear tire blows out, you can usually control the bike and stop safely…if your front tire blows…well…let’s just say it isn’t pretty.
If I only need one tire, I will put the new one in front and move the front one to the rear.
Plus you can always keep the half-way decent old tires to use on your trainer in the winter.
