I'm signed up and I'll be there Sunday. Has anyone done this one before?

I did it 2 years ago. Swim is murky. Bike has some good hills and is long (~22 miles or so). Run is nice. There are separate T1 and T2 areas about 1/2 mile apart, so you have to do a bit more thinking than usual to set up your spots. I might be there as a volunteer this weekend (I was going to do the race, but I just can't make it work with IM training).

I did it the last two years.
Its a great course and lots of fast triathletes will be there.

Two years ago the swim course was substantially longer than advertised, but last year they got it right --- although PJT is right about the water. Especially at the end, you'll be fighting thru some pretty thick weeds.

I really like the bike course --- long (for a sprint) and hilly, through the Kettle Morraine. A guy actually fell off his bike right in front of me on a particularly long and steep climb last year.

The run is relatively flat, although the last 1/4 mile or so is uphill.

I'd do it again this year, but I'll be down in Alabama for the USAT sprint nationals. Haven't done a triathlon since I beat you at the Rockton Tri :p; nursing my chronic sore calf; but its feeling better, so I'm hoping to place in the top 5. Time will tell.

Good luck.

I've done this one the last several years and will be doing it again this year. The water was pretty gross last year. Very murky - full of silt - didn't smell too good either. Only thing to be aware of is that there are two transition areas. I like the race as it is fast and for a good cause.

Thanks for the heads up - hilly bike and murky smelly water. That'll be good prep for the Chicago and Boston tri's which are next on my calendar. I'll post a report when I finish.

Looking forward to reading the reports -- turns out I won't make it even as a volunteer (family commitments). Hope you guys have a great race!

This was a great tune up race for the Chicago tri. I left the house at oh about 20 to 5 in the morning. At the last tri I did, I flatted my front tubular and haven't changed it yet so Sunday, I just used my front training wheel and my rear race wheel. I could feel the weight difference on the hills, but it was no biggie.
You guys were right, the water is completely opaque and full of seaweed. I definitely came out of the water with a seaweed necklace and a top full of seaweed. 10:53 for 1/3 mi. T1 was fast because I skipped the wetsuit 1:19. The bike went as well as can be expected for how much I've been biking (actually better than expected because I've biked 4x in the past 1.5 months) 1:10 for 22 fairly hilly miles. Nice smooth scenic wisconsin roads. I love coming to wi to race. You guys scared me a little, it was less hilly than I expected it to be but then again, 5 weeks ago I did an oly distance triathlon in the French Alps with 3000 feet of climbing. I was quite pleased with my pacing. I was able to pick up the effort at 10 miles to go no problem. I hope to do the same time or faster for my oly bike split in Chicago (1:10 last year) so it was a good dry run even though the terrain was different. T2 was about average for me :55 and the run was a touch slow 25:24. I've been running a lot lately and I think I just paced it too slow because the finish line came a lot sooner than I expected it to because 25 min is 10k pace. Total time 1:49:17 So yeah, I burst into the 20-24 age 6 days after turning 20 with a win 1/15. But don't worry, I beat all the 15-19s and all but 1 of the 25-29s. 9th woman out of 147 so if they have a sheet printed out that lists the top 10 times again next year I'll be on the list. 87 out of 360 overall.

Nice job, RV! I'm just jealous that you live so close to all these tri's that I have to drive 2 hours to. You can really do a killer bike split -- you beat me by 11.5 min overall and put 12 min into me on the bike. Wow! Nice job and hope you had fun too!

Hey Catwood - that's great getting the AG win!
Pretty brave going sans wetsuit in that muck, tho about 50 yards out it did get better.
I was happy with my bike split (10'th overall), especially as I did my 6 hour long bike through some big hills on Sat. Wasn't sure how the legs were going to respond. Felt some fatigue on the run, tho. Did manage to get 23'rd overall - that was only good enough for 8'th in my AG.
