Soft drinks: Water retention?
Sugar and calories, man. Those sodas are LOADED in cals, as is most mommy food. Gotta hold yourself back. It's hard, I know!
Is this weight change on the same scale wearing the same stuff?
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
Hello my friend:
Well, 9 pounds in that short amount of time is no only the calories and sugars from soft drinks...I almost 100% positive that there is a good amount of liquid retention.
Soft Drinks are something that I really discourage everybody to drink...not healthy anough...
Now, mommy´s food might be loaded of sodium....key element in our water balance....the more sodium that we take...the more liquids are gonna be retained...that might be another explanation.
But I haven´t read anything about that weight gain in the way you did, with soft drinks...might be a part of the equation but not all....
Anyway, I´ll que researching about it.

Thanks, seriously.
That's what I first thought...but was surprised by the numbers!
Yes Triguy98, same scale, same conditions, same everything..
I had to buckle my belt 1 knot larger this monday morning, it's just unbelievable.
I just hope to get back to normal as soon as possible, and that no fat as been gained... only water. I'd be sooo happy.
Definatley salt. I went out dinner with some friends Saturday night to a Cuban place. Very good, VERY salty. That afternoon I wieghed about 149. The NEXT MORNING, I wieghed 154!!!!! All water retention for the food. That's over 4% in 12 hours. It will go away in a day or so, so don't worry :).

Of course it's 'effing hard, it's IRONMAN!
Oh yeah!!!
Salt is tricky some times...
Same as Red5, I went out with some friends for dinner, instead of Cuban we had an all you can eat of Sushi, sashimi, rolls, tempura, you name it....Sushi is really loaded with sodium....I remember after eating like there was no tomorrow, I was so thirsty and had plenty of water....plenty...
Next morning I woke up 5 pounds heavier...

My question now is how much did you lose the next day. I have gained 6lbs in one day. It was the rest day before I ran a marathon. The next day I lost all 6 back again...
If I'm in Montreal I'm eating poutine. That'll do it for me.
Well a couple for sure, but not all of it... but I didn't run a marathon the next day like u did!
I may have kept a few pounds of fat though.. It took me about 4 days to loose about 6-7 pounds of the initial 9 pounds weight gain. So I guess that I gained something about 2 pounds of fat during this weekend.
With IM comin up so close, it's not what I was looking for!
To gain 2 lbs. of fat would be an excess of 7,000 calories; that is an awful lot of food!
I'm going with this theory: 1) the foods you ate had a lot of sodium in them and 2) you are normally a little underhydrated.
If it's sodium/water balance (this is pretty normal after an Ironman race or let's say riding your bike for 10+ hours and sometimes a marathon), the weight should come off after 4-6 days, sometimes less.
If you still have weight hanging around after that, maybe you were just underhydrated by a few pounds, and don't worry about it.
No matter what, assuming you returned to your good eating habits, if you truly did gain some fat, it will come off in a week or two anyway.

Hi there,
This weekend I went over to my parents, and I ate a lot of mommy's food... including soft drinks.
Result: In exactly 36 hours, I gained 9 pounds!!!! WoW!!
I know we can't gain 9 pound of fat in 36 hours, thus it must be water retention. But wow, 9 pounds, it's a bit excessive...
The question is, what the hell is responsible for that!?
Soft drinks? (That's my best guess)
Mom's food? I don't know..
Did you already got something like that?
