Once a day training...or two?
I do 2-3x a day. I ride 2x (to and from work, 25km one way approx 1hr one way) and then usually brick it on weekdays; so that's 3x per day five days/week. On weekends I ride and brick or incopr a swim run or variation there upon. Unless training for something, that is the norm for me 7d/week.

I do two a days as well. Hard not too when you hit that mid to long distance. You don't necessarily have to do one am and one pm unless work demands it. I do one early morning when I wake, then another mid morning or at lunch break. Usaully the swim at lunch or easier run at lunch. Evening's don't work for me, too much time too come up with excuses not to do it :)
I do two a days 4 days a week (two are strength training after my runs on T, Th) Swim/Bike bricks (Wed) and Bike am/Swim pm (Sat) (Sun are long run days only)
Mondays are recovery swims after long work is done on weekend and Fridays are off days completely.
Two a days here. It's easy in the summer as I'm off but during the school year, most often, both workouts in the pm.
About the only thing I can do in the am is spin of the trainer...no place for me to swim in the early am as I have to be at school about 7.
The only days I might not do two,is on long ride (4-6 hours) or long runs (18-22) miles but sometimes, if I'm heavily laden with tostostrone, I'll get in a second.
Tribro is right...the longer distances really require two a days...

I try to do two a day as well. I've started running every time I finish a bike ride, but I don't really count that as two workout as the run is usually only 20 minutes or so.
I'll usually do an AM swim, eat some food, then ride or run an hour or two later. I work evenings so I need to be back home ready to leave for work by around 4pm. It forces me to condense my days a little more (as in having less break between workouts), but I like it overall.

During week days...I usually train in two sessions....I am not a long distance racer....but makes me feel better to split my trainning in two during weekdays...particulary my swimming or weight trainning is in the PM session usually after work...running or riding early in the morning....
During weekends if I am not on call, I do my long rides or runs....

Red5 did you copy my training program? I do pretty much the same. I try to add a short (3 mile) run to the end of my long bike rides on Saturday then long run on Sunday like you. Friday am is my long swim day (2 miles).

It's alll my coaches plan :). I'm doing aerobic base building. MMy A race is IM AZ in April. I've done 2 Olympics this year with 2 more scheduled and a 1/2 IM in October.
My morning swims are anywhere from 3500-5000 yards and afternoon bikes are 1 1/2 and runs are 50min. to 1 1/2 hours. I train in HR zones and he has my on a speed limit of 148 bpm :)

I've been following the level 3 Half-IM plan from Fitzgerald's Essential Week to Week Training Guide which has
M-Off
T,Th,Sat - Bike
W,F, Sun - Swim, Run
Plus a few bricks worked in. Since I live in Houston, getting workouts outside in as early or late in the day is key (to not just falling over dead anyway). I do the swims in the AM on W & F (gym opens at 5) and then Run after work. On Sunday, I Run in the AM (gym doesn't open until 8 and the sun is damn hot by then) and swim sometime later in the day (as the "chores" allow). I agree with the others, once you pass just finishing an olympic (i.e., you're trying to move up in your age group), some 2/days are necessary. Plus, I always feel better at work when I've been up for a few hours and going by the time I start my day.

ok, I see that you are all on the same page. You must have very flexible schedules like me. I'll continue on with the same routine. Thanks for the input!

Just wondering if you all utilize one or two workouts a day. I'm following Matt Leito's (from Trifuel) 1/2 IM training plan for the 70.3 race in November, and his plan has two workouts a day (swim AM / run PM). For IM, I did all my training in the AM. What do some of you longer distance guys do?
