Hi all,

I'm about to invest in a bike trainer. However, I am about to become a full-time graduate student and have not much income for the next year. I am a tri newbie, and am looking for something not very expensive, but quiet - I'm willing to spend maybe $150 (or less). Does anyone have any advice/suggestions on where to start/what I need?

Thanks! :)

I would try for a used cycleops fluid trainer. They are very quiet and is an excellent trainer. Try craigslist if you have that in your area.

I bought a new blackburn trackstand fluid trainer for about $160 last year and I'm really happy with it. At the time it was the cheapest new fluid trainer I found.

I'll second the Cycleops trainer. You can find them on e-bay for pretty good prices. And the used one I've had for the last two years has worked perfectly. Now I have seen others in the group I ride with have issues with some used ones, but they were repaired to new condition by Cycleops at little or no cost.
