Only 39 Days Till Immoo And........
Hey Iron_Girl --- My training is going fine - except that I am battling through tendonitis in my ankle. Getting some PT for that, so hopefully will be okay, SOON. Doesn't affect me for cycling or swimming - just the for my runs. Seems to be improving a bit. Ice is my best friend right now.
YUCK! 10 loops - no fun, but getting the miles in at least. I'm doing the full course again this Saturday with my tri-club.
I do pretty much the same - Gatorade and gels - though for my last three long rides I added a PB&J at the mid point. Basically when we would get our special needs bags. Eat 1/2 at a time works pretty well. Nice little break from a gel.
I've been doing Ensure shakes and powerbars before my long rides. Seems to work well for me.
Only a couple weeks until taper - the clock is ticking fast now!
Good luck to all!

I'm using Gatorade Endurance, Gu & Carb Boom gels, and the occasional energy bar (strangely, that Snickers Marathon bar works OK for me). I'm also supplementing with Endurolytes, as I sweat heavily in the heat & humidity. Just remember that water is your friend when it comes to eating--you gotta drink to digest or you will speed up dehydration.
Training is going OK. I'll be on the course each of the next 2 weekends (see you Saturday, RV, but I'll definitely be with the second group). Slow taper will start around August 21 or so.
My training is going fine, also. I'm working through the torn cartilage in my knee (will probably have to have surgery over the winter). As long as I don't put two hard workouts on consecutive days, I can deal with it. Like RV said, ice is my best friend.
I'm also glad I have ridden the course, it helps to know where the hills are.
I'm doing Hammer Perpetuem and gels for nutrition on the bike, and e-caps for electrolytes instead of gatorade - I just can't drink that much gatorade over that long a time. I'll have Ritz Bits with cheese in the special needs bag in case I feel I need something solid (but not too solid) and salty later in the bike.
I can't beleive it's so close! Be safe with the rest of your training!

I do envy all of you who live near Madison. I was so impressed with this town when I went for that ride, everybody is so friendly towards all of us bikers and runners out there. I am glad I rode this course at least once. I would have hated to come this very important race thinking I knew hills. Sheeeeesh!!!! this ARE HILLS!!!!! anyway, I will see you all in September. Good luck with the rest of your training. I am so looking forward to that taper.

Overall, the people are friendly there and they understand what we are training for - but also lots that are annoyed with having bikes on course every weekend. Had people yell at us even when a small group and in single file. One guy was even forced off the road by an angry motorist - so gotta be careful - as always.

I am wondering how is everyone doing training wise. How do you feel? Has anyone who is doing this IM as your first, had the chance to ride the course? I did and I am glad because at least now I know what I am up against. So far in my training I have 3 rides of 100 miles, including the course ride on Saturday, July 15th. I wish I live closer because I probably would ride this course every month. I will ride 100 miles once again on August 19th and I will have to do it here, in my subdivision, 10x around, ughhhhh!!!!!!! boring but I have no other choice. I messured a 10.6 mile loop that goes from one end of the subdivision to the other and my house is right in the middle of it so, when I ride long I have the advantage of being able to come home to use the bathroom and refill my Gatorade bottles so this is a good thing.
I have been practicing my drinking and eating when I have the long rides in the heat on the weekends and in the middle of the week and, at least for me, the only thing that works well is Gatorade and GU or Power Gels. I have tried taking bites out of a Power Bar but it is hard to chew and it upsests my tummy so, Gatorade and GU or Power Gels for me.
What works for you guys? Just curious.
Another thing that concerns me is what to eat on race morning. Like for a Sprint I only have a slice of wheat bread with PB&J and some orange juice and coffee. This I eat at around 5am. For a Half IM I eat at around 4am, a bagel with PB&J, an 8oz. container of fat free yogurt, a Power Bar and some Gatorade. Also, I drink at least one cup of coffee because this, for some weird reason, like clock work stimulates my insides to take care of bussiness in the early morning so I am free for the rest of the day. Now, for an Iron Man race I figure that I should eat a bit more than for a Half IM, right? So, this is for all of you veterans.....what do you recomend for a 55 year old woman, 5' 7" tall, 132lb.
I thank you in advance and look forward to reading your suggestions.
See you guys in September.:)
