Hi, I'm new to the triathlon scene. I started using this product called GU Energy Gel for $24.95 from this new site called OneTri.com. I purchased the TriBerry flavor and it tasted great! I was wondering if there are any more products out there that are great in taste and in value.

I go for the jelly belly jelly beans. Any gu or carboom or any gu type product makes me hurl. Also clif shot blocks are good as well.

Love Gu. Take one evry 1/2 hour during training with 8 oz of water and it's like an adrenaline boost.

Try everything. Yes, some of it will make you hurl but other stuff will work for you.
Power Gel, Carbboom,Cliff Shot,e-crank, power bars, cliff bars, hammer gel, cliff bloks, sport beans...there are a gazillion of them.
You are new to tri's and it's sort of a mantra around here...Find what works for you!
Currently I'm using Beans, blocks and shots. I change it around every few months so it doesn't get stale...

This month's Bicycling has a small spread on the breakdown of gels, bars, etc. Helpful if you are interested in what kinds and how much sugar, carbs and such are in each brand.

I pity da fool!

Power Gel from PowerBar....does wonder for me.....one every 30 min chaced with water....and is like high octane fuel for me...does not upset my stomach...always with water...and I like the taste...
For short recreational runs...every once in a while I grab some marshmallows...love those little things....

I can't chew when I'm going hard. I don't know why, but by the end of a long ride, my jaw is sore. Maybe I clench my teeth when I'm hammering. I don't know.

That said, I go for gels. I've discovered that most of the GU flavors are a bit too sweet for me. I dig on HammerGel's berry flavor though.

Thank you for your responses. I can now purchase some cliff bars and some energy gels for my workouts. I was wondering where I can get the Gels from? I know I can get the Power Bars and Cliff Bars at the local supermarket or this store called Trader Joe's in California.

Gels...well they are pretty popular now...sometimes you might find then at the supermarket in the low calories aisle...where all the Slim Fast and meal replacement stuff is. Or at Sport Stores, like REI or similars.

Costco carries Cliff Bars in bulk! MUCH cheaper than regular retail!
