I have got to start this out by handing out a BIG kudos to the RD and staff. The race could have been called off, even if the conditions were safe enough. And then public offering anyone who didn't wanna do the race their money back was awesome. I'm glad everyone stayed and raced.

The weather was ominous with black clouds on the south and eastern horizons. And so when they called for the race meeting I was very afraid they were going to call it off, which honestly would have been understandable. But the weather held and so did the RD. We had a race!

This was my first time at this venue, and it is a simple straight forward out and bike both bike and run. The swim was a triangle with a killer current on the in-leg. The water was fairly clear and you could see reasonably well even with the overcast and setting sun. I haven't been swimming much with job changes, vacation, and moving. It showed. Very disappointed in my swim times, cause I KNOW I am faster than that. 7:35 for a 400. Yes, I know. Blah.

T1 was great. My bike was right there by the swim exit. Due to race regulations, we had to turn on the mandatory head and tail lights. :40

The ride was flat and fast with some light wind due to the proximity of the storm fronts. Not too bad. The light show nature was putting on over on the horizon was spectacular and distracting. I didn't push the bike too hard, playing cat and mouse with a couple other dudes on some real nice Ti bikes. A couple roadies were drafting off us pretty bad. Good thing roadies cant run! ;) You can suck my wheel to keep up, but you still suck! 10 miles, 26:35 for a 22.6 average. Not bad for taking it easy.

T2 was solid. I was prepared for the dismount and even pulled off my flying dismount going around a sharp corner. Woo! for bike handling skills! :36

The run followed the bike course for a straight out and back. Good for speed, bad for the mental thing. I like being able to see my competitors, but not 1/2 mile down the road! I felt strong and smooth pretty much the whole way, picking off the drafters and the guys who picked it up right at the end of the ride. I believe I posted my fastest run split for a tri: 3 miles, 20:19 for 6:46 a mile.

13th OA, 4th AG. Ties my best AG finish. I'll take it. I exposed some more weaknesses to be built up, and proved to myself that the sub 6:00/ mile run isn't all that far away and obtainable. I look forward to the rest of my race calender to prove myself right.

Big thanks again to the RD and staff for the well run race. This was the smallest race I have done yet, and it was probably the most fun I have had. While my results contribute to the fun had, the atmosphere was relaxed and fun. I will be back next year!

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

A twilight Tri - What a cool concept - never heard of that before.
Congrats on a nice race. Good luck squeezing out time on the run

Yep. Gun (siren in this case) went off at 7:30 or so. It was dARK when some of the slower racers were finishing. Lights and reflective tape/ clothing were required. It was my first tiem and it was awesome!
