Where do you train in NYC?
I am in New Jersey and there is a good place to ride just on the Jersey side of the GW Bridge, up route 9.

Yeah, seems like across the GWB is about the only place to go. Only problem is that would be limited to a weekend excursion for me. The park looks like a nightmare these days with the police cracking down, and getting up there in the morning would be tough as well (I live downtown).
I've heard mixed things about the greenway, but that's another thought.
I'm also curious about more than cycling though. Where do you guys swim in the city? Obviously running is an easy one.
There ae tons of health clubs that have pools in the city.
Do most of your swimming in the pools and then try and get out to upstate NY or NJ and visit one of the state parks with lakes to get some open water practice.

Do you know of any that offer a pool-only "membership"? Spending the money on a health club membership just for pool use seems a little silly to me, and money is on the tighter side for me. This city costs a damn fortune
I live in NJ so I am not sure.
I would check the New York Sports Clubs for the pool only option.
:D

Asphalt Green has a pool only membership. I haven't been, but I heard it's great. http://www.asphaltgreen.com/

Hey Lou,
Back online with some timely info from a Genuine NY'er :D

Hey Scott!
Yep, back online, but still unable to run (fractures are healed, but the ankle's acting up). Get this though -- I can SWIM further than I can run! Did over a mile in the pool last week for the first time ever. :D

If you have the bike and swim down maybe check into an aquathon. I think the NYRR was going to have one.
Glad to see you are alive!! :D

Just remembered - there's a bunch of public pools in NYC that would be substantially cheaper than a gym. Check out the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation for more info. http://www.nycgovparks.org/sub_things_to_do/facilities/af_pools.html#top
University pools are nice too, if you're affiliated with any local schools.

I've been out of cycling for a while, but have recently had a real itch to pick it up again. I always rode a TT/Tri bike when I rode simply because I enjoyed it more. Now I've started running a bit as well, so tri's have started to tickle my brain.
My biggest deterrent though, has been all of the crap that I've read about trying to ride in the city. Seems like the only place to really ride is Central Park, and I've read about the cops cracking down on every little issue lately. There's some races in Prospect Park that could be fun for training as well, but obviously would require a drop bar setup with clip ons rather than a dedicated TT/Tri bar setup.
So I guess my biggest question is where do you guys go to ride?
